Mobile vendors removed from Fethiye kordon
Fethiye Municipality made a decision to remove mobile vendors from Fethiye kordon (promenade) last week. The decision came after a number of complaints were made about the lack of hygiene and poor image portrayed by the look of the stands.
Fethiye police helped to remove street vendors selling bread & simit rings, ice cream, corn-on-the-cob, mussels and candy floss.
The vendors have been informed that they can apply to open stalls on the district markets.
The Municipality are also looking at a project to standardise the National Lottery vendors.

Fethiye Municipality pledge to invest money in local areas
During a Municipality meeting held last week, Fethiye Mayor, Alim Karaca, pledged to invest 350 million TL on improvements in Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Ovacık and Hisarönü. 350 million TL of a 900 million TL loan taken from the World Bank by the Metropolitan Municipality will be transferred to Fethiye for investment in the area.
65 million TL will be spent in Ölüdeniz, Ovacık and Hisarönü. The plans include a Wastewater Pumping Station in Ovacık. Further details will be released by the Municipality.

Istanbul Airport serves 10M passengers in 57 days
The IGA (Istanbul Grand Airport) administration announced yesterday that Istanbul Airport served 10 million passengers in 57 days since it started operating at full capacity on April 6. Esra Yeşilöz, who became the 10 millionth passenger at the airport, was welcomed with flowers and a gift by airport officials.
During May, the airport served 35,696 flights, including 17,814 arrivals and 17,882 departures carrying 5.2 million passengers, including around 2.6 million arrivals and 2.6 million departures. In the same period, 3.4 million bags were processed.

Project ‘Italy, Greece and Turkey on Foot’
The European Association of the Via Francigena Ways has engaged in an ambitious project –‘Italy, Greece and Turkey on Foot’ – which aims to develop a walking route connecting Europe and Asia – Via Eurasia.
The Via Eurasia will link Europe and Asia and will allow hikers to enjoy the ever-changing landscapes, learn new traditions and meet local communities on the way. The Route will start in Rome and will follow Via Francigena del Sud, then cross Greece, Albania and Northern Macedonia on the Via Egnatia and pass through Turkey with the end point in Demre.
This project is led by a non-governmental organization from Turkey Culture Routes Society (CRS) with co-applicants of the EAVF and an association in Greece Trace Your Eco.

Fines for wheeled vehicles caught on Çalış promenade
New signage is now on display at Çalış Beach forbidding any wheeled vehicles, including pushbikes, to use the promenade. We’re told there will be 600 lira fine for each occasion.

UEFA Super Cup final to be played in Istanbul
With the UEFA Champions League and Europa League finals concluded, Istanbul has now set its sights on the first all-English Super Cup match scheduled for August and some 50,000 spectators, mostly English fans, are expected to visit the city for the occasion.
Liverpool, emerging victorious from last week’s Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea, dazzling London rival Arsenal in Thursday’s Europa League final, will face each other on August 14 in the renowned Vodafone Park, which serves as the home ground of Istanbul giants Beşiktaş.
The match is expected to contribute as much as 100 million euros to the city’s economy, with airliners expecting more sales in flights from Britain while hoteliers expect a 100% percent occupancy rate in the already-crowded season.
Fans have already started booking tickets for scheduled flights offered by flag-carrier Turkish Airlines and budget airline Pegasus from Manchester and London to Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen, in addition to flights offered by foreign airliners. Additional charter flights will also be introduced near the date of the match.
