Campers removed from forests in Faralya
Forest Management Directorate officials and Gendarmerie teams removed tents and stopped camping in the forest in the Faralya area this week.
The tents were removed after fire broke out in a wooded area when campers failed to extinguish their camp fire. The fire was put out by locals and holiday makers.
The next day, Gendarmerie and Fethiye Forestry Management teams took action and dismantled the tents and removed them.
Hasan Karaburun, the Mukhtar of Faralya Neighborhood, said “These campers present a great risk in the area and I have been working to have them removed since I took office. They make camp fires in the forest every evening and I don’t even remember how many times there’s been a fire. In addition, they do not do any cleaning when leaving the areas they have camped in and piles of garbage are left in the forest.We don’t want people destroying this world-famous bay. Today, the tents were dismantled and removed and we will patrol the area regularly to keep it free of campers. Thank you to the authorities for their support”

Fethiye Bay turns from blue to green and yellow
There was much speculation as to why the colour of Fethiye bay changed from blue to green and yellow the week.
Samples of the water tested during an investigation carried out by Mugla Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Works General Directorate (MUSKI), discovered the reason for the change was an explosion of algae on the sea bed, causing the sea to look green.
MUSKI said in a statement, “The green and yellow colors appearing on the sea are formed from algae found on the sea bottoms as the weather warms up during seasonal changes. We want to let the public know that the color change is not related to sewage drainage or waste water“
The sea colour has now returned to normal.

Turkey and Europe swelter in heatwave pushing temperatures over 40 degrees
Whilst temperatures soared last week, meteorologists in Turkey and across Europe warned that temperatures will continue to sizzle for the next two weeks as a heatwave from Africa and the Middle East sweeps the region.
Meteorologists in Turkey are warning residents and visitors to avoid excess sun exposure during the hottest times of the day in the southern regions of the country, where temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Children, elderly, pregnant women and those with health problems are especially at risk, authorities cautioned.
In western Aydın province, temperatures hit 43 degrees, as tourists visiting the Aegean coastal districts of Didim and Kuşadası sought relief under beach umbrellas or in the sea.
While the temperatures in Istanbul and the Marmara region are hovering over 30 degrees this week, high humidity has left residents sweltering.
“The humidity rate in the city is estimated to be up to 55-60%,” Ahmet Kocaman, director of the first region under the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS), told Anadolu Agency. “The temperature will feel higher because of high humidity.”
A cold front will move in from the Black Sea on Saturday and Sunday, providing temporary relief and possibly some rain before temperatures pick up again next week, Kocaman said.
Large parts of Europe also experienced exceptionally warm summer weather this week, with sweltering heatwaves forecasted in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Britain.

Lost bear cub reunited with mother in NE Turkey
A bear cub was reunited with its relieved mother by park rangers on Thursday.
Visitors to Limni Lake Nature Park on Mt. Zigana in Gümüşhane, northeastern Turkey came across the brown bear cub wandering alone and forlorn on the side of the road.
They sought help from rangers from the Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate who returned the cub to a spot within range of its mother.
The rangers tracked the cub until they saw it reunited with the mother with their own eyes.
