Mounted gendarmerie patrol Fethiye and Ortaca
Mounted gendarmerie, who started work in the tourist areas of Fethiye and Ortaca, attracted a lot of interest amongst holiday makers this week.
Nevsehir Gendarmerie Horse and Dog Training Command (JAKEM) have provided a team of six mounted gendarmes to cover tourist areas that aren’t accessible by car. The team are multi-lingual and will deal with security issues and the safety of holidaymakers.
The Fethiye team will cover the Lycian Way, Ölüdeniz Road, Kayaköy and Belcekiz and Kumburnu beaches.
The teams will patrol until the end of the holiday season.

Laboratory analysis results show Fethiye sea clean in terms of microbiology
Last week we reported on the explosion of algae on the sea bed, causing the sea in Fethiye to look green.
This week, Fethiye District Governor, Muzaffer Şahiner, shared the results of microbiological analysis tests in a public statement.
At a meeting of the District Directorate of National Education, Governor Şahiner said “Microbiological analysis samples have been taken four times this year and all swimming waters are clean in terms of microbiology.
Our District Health Directorate performs microbiological analysis of swimming waters. Sampling is carried out every two weeks starting from 15 days before the beginning of the swimming season in accordance with the swimming water quality regulation numbered 76/160 / EU dated 9.1.2006
Totalkoliform, fecalcoliform and fecalstreptococcal parameters are considered as mandatory microbiological criteria for bathing water quality in samples.
The microbiological analysis samples taken by our environmental health technicians on 13-14 May 2019, 28-29 May 2019, 11-12 June 2019 and 25-26 June 2019 and were analysed at Muğla Public Health Laboratory.
The analysis results show that, in accordance with the mandatory values determined by the regulation microbiologically on the coasts of our district, there is no pollution in our swimming waters.”

Fires devour land in western Turkey
The increase in temperatures have led to hot, dry conditions that cause an increase in wildfires, destroying the ecosystem and habitats of many species of wildlife. This week has seen a number of wildfires across Turkey.
Firefighters contained fires that erupted in forestland in the Aegean province of İzmir on Sunday (30 June)
One of the fires broke out in maquis shrubland north of the Çandarlı neighborhood, burning up an area of 10 hectares.
Firefighters used five helicopters and 17 water tenders to battle the flames, which spread due to windy conditions.
Another fire erupted in İzmir’s Menderes district on the same day. The blaze, thought to be caused by faulty electric wires, was close to the hotels in the Özdere neighborhood. Two five-star hotels were evacuated immediately.
A third fire erupted in the early hours of July 1 in the Mediterranean province of Antalya’s Serik district, consuming seven hectares of olive and fruit trees.
No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fires is under investigation.
Forest fires destroy over 10 hectares of land
Forest fires destroyed over 10 hectares of land across Turkey on July 2.
In the southern province of Adana, a forest fire broke out late on July 1, was brought under control but flared up again due to high winds. The fire destroyed 10 hectares of forest.
In the southern Hatay province, four acres of forest land were destroyed by a fire in the Antakya district before forestry workers and three water tenders, extinguished it.
In western Denizli province, a forest fire consumed a hectare of land in Buldan district. It was extinguished after around two hours of efforts by 30 forest workers and six water tenders.
In Manisa, an Aegean province, five acres of oak forest were also destroyed in Köprübaşı district by a fire, which was brought under control after around two hours of efforts by three water tenders and 15 firefighters.
The cause of the fires remains unknown.

Turkey proposes new tourism promotion agency
Turkey’s government are proposing a bill to establish a new agency to promote and develop tourism in the country.
The new Tourism Publicity and Development Agency aims to raise recognition of Turkey as a tourist destination to the highest level.
With its favorable location, existing potential, mega projects, and ambitious targets set for 2023, the tourism sector continues to grow at a rate that outstrips its bed capacity. Even though there has been a surge of investments in the last several years, there is still ample room for new ventures.
The agency will have a 13-person board, including the CEO of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) and representatives of the public tourism sector.
“Our main objective is to help Turkey boost the number of tourists and increase tourism revenues,” Mehmet Mus, the AK Party deputy chair, told Anadolu Agency.
The number of foreign arrivals in Turkey rose 11.3% year-on-year in the first five months of this year, according to official data.
Nearly 12.8 million foreigners visited the country this January-May, compared to 11.5 million in the same period last year.

Fethiyespor
Fethiyespor signed new contracts with two existing players this week.
The team signed a further two-year contract with Mahmut Metin who joined the team last season. The successful winger said he was very happy to stay at Fethiyespor.
Fethiyspor also signed a new two-year contract with successful defender Erdi Bakırcı.
The club signed a two-year contract with midfielder, Mert Caymaz, who transfers in from Zonguldak Kömürspor.
