Call for glass viewing terrace at Butterfly valley
Faralya Mukhtar, Hasan Karaburun has again called for a glass viewing terrace to be built at Butterfly Valley after another death last month.
Polish tourist Piotr Mikolajczyk, 48, died on 19 August when he lost his balance and fell into a 230 meter-deep canyon during a trip to Butterfly Valley with his son.
In June 2018, seven-month pregnant Semra Aysal fell 250 meters to her death whilst taking photographs from the rocks above Butterfly Valley.
The 32-year-old had come to Fethiye on vacation with her husband. They first took a selfie together on the precipice, then Semra lost her balance and fell as she posed as her husband took a photograph.
Mukhtar Hasan Karaburun said “So far at least 20 major accidents have occurred at Butterfly Valley. 10 people died in these accidents, at least 10 were injured and there have been hundreds of minor injuries,” He went on to say “The region is now known as Death Valley and measures need to be taken”.
In order to prevent further accidents in the valley, Karaburun and the Fethiye District Governorate had prepared a project for the construction of a glass viewing terrace. The project was rejected by the General Directorate of Natural Assets Protection because of the region’s natural protected area. Karaburun is working to remove the bureaucratic obstacles.

MUSKİ use “mole” to inspect sewage and stormwater lines
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (MUSKİ) have been out around Fethiye this week inspecting sewage and stormwater lines with a camera robot known as a “mole”.
The 45 centimeter long “mole” uses a camera and digital mapping to monitor the channels and identify any problems such as blockages, leakage and overflow.
The “mole” has discovered 268 problems so far and MUSKİ workers have been able to unblock drains and rectify problems without digging up roads and excavating pipelines.

Netflix applies for license under new Turkish broadcasting rules
Netflix has applied for a license to continue servicing its 1.5 million subscribers in Turkey under new, more restrictive online broadcasting rules.
The new rules, which were granted last month by the Turkish government, give sweeping powers to Turkish broadcast regulator RTUK to oversee all online content and have raised fears of censorship. Critics have said the move will allow the government to tighten its grip on Turkish media.
Turkey last month granted its radio and television watchdog sweeping oversight over all online content, including streaming platforms and news outlets, a move that raised concerns that the state was tightening its control over the media.
The new licenses are obligatory and Ebubekir Sahin, president of RTUK, said on Twitter on Tuesday that more than 600 institutions, including Netflix and local streaming platforms Puhu TV and Blu TV, have already applied. There is a three-month period of grace for those services that have not yet applied for a new license.
“We’re applying for a local license — a requirement for streaming services in Turkey,” a Netflix spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our loyal Turkish fan base — 1.5 million members and growing — values both the diversity of titles on Netflix and local storytelling. It’s why we’re investing more in Turkish programs and also discussing with the regulator how to further strengthen our parental controls. Our goal is to protect children from content that may be inappropriate for their age, while ensuring our members can continue to watch the shows and films of their choice.”
The new oversight rules have prompted fears that Turkey could use them to censor online content, particularly of news outlets. Netflix, however, said it has not been asked to block or remove any content on its Turkish service.
It was unclear Tuesday whether Amazon and other big U.S. streaming services operating in Turkey had also applied for a new license.

Turkey to plant 11 million trees on November 11
Turkey aims to set a new Guinness World Record by planting 11 million trees in one day across the country, according to a statement by the General Directorate of Forestry.
General Directorate of Forestry, provincial directorates, municipalities and governors’ offices will work together and plant 11 million trees on November 11, at 11.11 a.m.
11 million saplings will be planted in three hours, concurrently in all 81 provinces of the country. Some 2,023 different locations across Turkey will be reforested. Areas that have been destroyed by recent forest fires in Turkey’s coastal provinces will be a main focus .
“From students to military troops, non-governmental organizations and state’s bodies, we will plant 11 million saplings. It is planned that approximately 1 million citizens will participate in the event,” the directorate’s statement read.
Many ministers have voiced their support of the event, saying such an activity is meaningful at a time when Turkey struggles with many forest fires.
“Saplings are hope, they are the future. I am wholeheartedly supporting this meaningful project, for a more green Turkey,” said Fuat Oktay, Turkey’s vice president.
Some 66,648-hectare area in Turkey has been damaged due to forest fires in the last decade. After the fires, over 75 million saplings were planted to compensate for the damage.
Article 169 of the Constitution stipulates that any burned forestland should be reforested.

Inflation in Turkey flashing green following record rate cut
The pieces are falling into place for Turkey’s central bank following its record interest-rate cut with more monetary easing as inflation heads for lows not seen since last year’s currency crash.
Turkish central bank Governor Murat Uysal slashed the benchmark by 425 basis points to 19.75% in July, the biggest rate cut in at least 17 years.
A more stable lira and the effect of a high base of comparison could push price growth into single digits as early as this month. Data on Tuesday showed it decelerated more than forecast in August to an annual 15%, the slowest in more than a year.
Most of the monthly inflation increase in August was a result of hikes in the cost of tobacco and natural gas, Okan Ertem, a senior economist at Turk Ekonomi Bankasi, said before the data release. Without those “regulatory interventions,” the consumer-price index rose only by around 0.3% from July, according to Ertem, who says the annual gauge may be below 10% in September and October.

Fethiyespor lost their match away against Kocaelispor on Saturday. The final score was 1-0.
Fethiyespor are know in 6th position on the league table.

Turkey beat Andorra in Euro 2020 qualifier
Turkey beat Andorra 1-0 in UEFA Euro 2020 Group H qualifier on Saturday with a goal in the 89th minute.
Turkey have 12 points from 5 matches in Group H in Euro 2020 qualifiers.
In other Group H matches, Iceland defeated Moldova 3-0 while France beat Albania 4-1.
Turkey will face Moldova on Tuesday in their sixth group match in an away game in Chisinau.
