At the beginning of November, two members of the DOC team travelled to the United Kingdom to take part in the 2019 World Travel Market exhibition, which was held at the ExCeL events arena in London.
The World Travel Market is a UK event for the global travel industry that was launched in London in Olympia, before moving to Earl’s Court in 1992 and later to the ExCeL arena in 2002.

Every year in November, exhibitors from over 180 countries and regions come together, alongside more than 51,000 participants, to take part in the World Travel Market, which creates over 2.5 million pounds worth of travel industry and tourism deals. WTM London brings together a huge number of travel trade professionals under one roof – all looking to find new contacts, discuss business plans and effective strategies for the coming year, whilst also sharing knowledge in order to move the industry forward.
DOC at the WTM
Representing the already popular Fethiye region, Dr. Özgür Yürük, founder of the Dental Operation Center, attended the exhibition for the first time this year, accompanied by one of the clinic’s English speaking foreign patient coordinators, Sarah Dunn.

With the huge expansion of the health tourism sector in recent years, particularly in Turkey, there were a number of exhibitors aiming to network with likeminded medical and tourism companies in order to reach and attract further tourists and new patients to Turkey; those potentially looking to take advantage of the huge medical savings available, whilst also enjoying a relaxing holiday in a popular tourism destination, such as Fethiye.
Turkey at WTM
Joining the DOC Clinic in the Fethiye section of the extensive Turkey exhibit were also a host of local representatives from a number of Fethiye based tour companies, travel agencies and hoteliers, plus members of staff from the Fethiye Chamber of Commerce.
Other countries at WTM
As well as Turkey, there were a number of impressive and very colourful stands from countries all over the world, all aiming to display their countries and attract all forms of new business in the tourism sector.
Health Tourism
The term ‘Health Tourism’ in simple terms is the practice of travelling from one’s home country for all kinds of medical treatment abroad. The reasons patients regularly choose to seek to undertake medical procedures abroad can vary, but most commonly, the higher quality of care, fully qualified physicians, state of the art facilities and the extremely competitive prices are the most common examples.
Dental Tourism
Dental Tourism (or Dental Holidays) is an increasingly popular sector found under the health tourism umbrella, with patients keen to take advantage of the more favourable dentistry treatment prices, as well as exploring the amazing holiday destinations before, during and after their treatment or dental procedure. Patients can enjoy a relaxing break in a beautiful location, as well as saving up to 70% on dental costs when compared to the applicable prices in their normal country of residence.

With rising healthcare and dental costs in Europe and America in particular, Turkey has become the leading short haul destination for dental treatment abroad in recent years. Alongside its unbeatable healthcare facilities, Turkey offers prospective patients a fantastic climate, an amazing choice of hotels, stunning coastline and an abundance of cultural and historical attractions to enjoy for the duration of their treatment schedule.
After a very productive few days spent in London at ExCeL, the DOC team were pleased to touch back down in Turkey and commence plans for the expansion of their foreign patient department for the coming 2020 tourism season in Fethiye.
