A busy month for 3C’s

Thank you to Cathy Harrower for the update and photographs.

Çalış Children’s Charity (3C’s) were kept busy in December with a number of successful fundraising activities.

First up was the annual Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December. If you missed it, please click on the link below for more.

Two further events took place during the month …

Donation from Bambu “quizzers”

The first was a presentation of money raised by a group who regularly attend weekly quiz nights at Bambu Restaurant in Çalış.

3C’s were invited to join them for a special pre-Christmas quiz on the 10th December and to accept the monies that they have collected during the year.

Quizmaster Frederick Ledicott produced a fun Christmas themed quiz, with eight teams taking part. A raffle and a mini auction for a bottle of spirit and a smart watch followed the quiz, again with the proceeds donated to 3C’s.

The group had raised 2,480 tl during the year, and the raffle and auction raised a further 980 tl .

Our sincere thanks go to Frederick and the quizzers, and to Bambu who host the quiz.

Cahide fun night

A week later on the 17th December, 3C’S organised a Christmas fun evening and Curry night at Cahide Bar on Bariş Manco Bvl in Çalış.

The evening was a sell out with 52 people taking part in the event. A delicious curry was followed by a Christmas quiz by Ann Pavier, an auction and raffle, and of course some Christmas songs.

Some people dressed up in their Christmas jumpers or fancy dress. The prize for best costume went to the chimney sweep, aka Keith Broderick.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and Cahide bar, the evening raised 2,910 tl which will be used to help disadvantaged children in the local area.

Our grateful thanks go to Cahide and Ceyhun, Ann, and all who donated items for the raffle and auction.

Donation from Summer Rose

Abu at Summer Rose restaurant in Çalış also donated the proceeds of their raffle for a hamper to 3C’s. A member of the 3C’s committee went along on Boxing Day and was asked to draw the winning raffle ticket, which belonged to Summer Rose regulars, Rod and Margaret.

Abu donated the 240 tl raised to 3C’s. Special thanks to Abu and his family who are regular supporters of the charity.

New Year’s Splash

The sun shone for 25 brave “splashers” who took part in the 10th annual New Year’s Day Splash in Çalış.

Most of the participants wore fancy dress costumes when they bravely entered the sea at 1pm. The rules are that they must stay in the water up to their shoulders for 5 minutes.

The 3C’s splash raises money for local underprivileged children, and those participating ask for sponsorship from family and friends.

3C’S also invites other local charities to join and they raise money for their respective causes.

This year saw the largest crowd yet, encouraging  those brave souls in the water.

The event received local TV and newspaper coverage, and they were interested to know about the 3C’S and their fundraising and what the funds are used for.

A prize was awarded for the best costume, and this was won by Marian Mattingly,  dressed as a lion and raising funds for HAYED, a local animal charity.

The final total of sponsorship raised is not available yet, as some sponsorship money is coming from the UK. As soon as this is confirmed, 3C’s will let you know.

3C’S would like to thank all of the “splashers” who took part in the fun, their sponsors, and Angel from Nil Bar who provided hot soup for all who took part.

People are already planning their costumes for the 2021 splash, watch this space!
