Check-up programs are important for both your quality of life and life span. With a simple blood test and other studies, the risk of heart disease or other serious illness such as cancer can be diagnosed in the early stages when your chance for treatment or a cure are better.

Fethiye Times was invited by Health Tourism Director Bora Türkoğlu to go along and find out what you can expect during your check-up.
What you can expect during your check-up
Usually, you’ll be invited to start early to beat the rush. The hospital is very different at 8am than it is from 9am onwards when the waiting areas fill up quickly with outpatients.
The hospital provides an international service with highly trained and experienced staff combined with advanced medical technology. Whilst the Esnaf is a very busy hospital, you can’t help but be struck by the sense of “organised busyness”.
International patients are dealt with by the International Patient Center, which is committed to making sure your care and comfort is their number one priority, from start to finish. They make sure you know what to expect during your check-up and one of the English-speaking team will be with you throughout.
They understand that you will have questions and may be feeling a little nervous, which is completely normal. They are there to answer your questions and take away some of those nerves.
Fethiye Times spent the morning with Emel who has many years experience of dealing with check-ups and international patients, as well has having a warm and reassuring manner that makes such a difference to the patient.
The health check-up starts, as you would expect, with the filling out of forms after which, Emel (or your representative from the International Patients Center) calls various departments to book appointments to ensure the check-up goes as smoothly as possible, and with the minimum of waiting.
It runs like a well-oiled wheel.
The tests are all run in a logical order, culminating in meetings with the Cardiologist, General Surgeon and Internal Medicine Consultant who review the results of the tests, diagnosing and recommending treatment for any medical disorders that many have been discovered.
When there is a gap between tests, you’ll be taken to the hospital cafe where you can enjoy refreshments. It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t eat or drink before your check-up as some of the blood tests are “after fasting” tests. Don’t worry, you’ll be given a wholesome Turkish breakfast before undergoing the exercise stress test that shows how your heart works during physical activity.
At the end of the check-up you’ll be given your personal folder with a complete record of your test results along with a summary in English.
Four hours later, I was all done and leaving with my personal folder, reassured that there wasn’t anything serious lurking around, very happy with the efficiency, friendliness and professionalism of all the hospital personnel … and a prescription for Vitamin D!
