Fethiye and Seydikemer priority destinations in eco-tourism project
The South Aegean Development Agency (GEKA) met with Fethiye Eco-tourism Destination Management Commission on Friday discuss the further development of tourism by mobilizing the eco-tourism potential in the area.
Ecotourism (also called sustainable tourism) can be defined by a variety of travel practices that benefit local people and protects the environment.
GEKA Specialist Emrah Çelik and Muğla Investment Support Office Coordinator Mehmet Yasin Kartal provided information to the participants about the New Destinations Result-Oriented Program in Eco-tourism.
The specific objectives of the program were explained as increasing the benefits and reducing the negative impacts caused by tourism for destinations.
The specific objectives of the program were explained as improving accessibility and attractiveness of natural riches, local life and historical heritage, expanding and diversifying nature activities and strengthening destination management.
Çelik also stated that Fethiye and Seydikemer are the priority districts within the scope of the program; Ölüdeniz, paragliding, Saklıkent Canyon and Kayaköy are areas within the framework of this program.
The participants were given detailed information on topics such as creating promotional materials for the destinations, promotion organizations, and agency support.

Turkey grants visa exemptions to four EU nations, Norway
Turkey announced on February 27 it will provide citizens of four EU countries and Norway, 90-day visa exemption for tourist travel.
“In order to sustain unity in our visa regime towards the members of the European Union and Schengen area, Turkey has decided to exempt visa requirements for the citizens of Croatia, Ireland, Malta, Portugal and Norway,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy in a statement.
The exemption will be provided to countries for tourist travel for 90-day visits once every 180 days.
“This step aims at increasing our tourism potential with these countries as well as further developing our bilateral relations in other areas,”

AKUT rescue a ‘kid’ stuck in Butterfly Valley
Whilst kids of the two-legged variety may be learning that the cliffs surrounding Butterfly Valley in Faralya are very dangerous, those of the four-legged kind haven’t quite got the message yet.
AKUT Search and Rescue were called out this week to rescue Capricorn, a young goat who was trapped on a 350 meter high, steep slope at Butterfly Valley.
An AKUT volunteer who was lowered 30 meters by rope, managed to catch the kid and tie him on his back before being pulled back up to safety.
Capricorn’s owner thanked the AKUT team saying, “It was impossible for me to save Capricorn myself. He was hungry and thirsty for days. He would have died soon if he had not been saved.”

‘Container city’ in Elazığ gives new homes to Turkey’s quake survivors
Exactly one month after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the eastern Turkish province of Elazığ, survivors started moving to a “container city,” a new settlement composed of prefabricated housing units resembling shipping containers. Some 500 survivors who lost their homes have already moved in while the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) provided furniture and other household items for families.
The earthquake on Jan. 24 killed 41 people and destroyed hundreds of homes. Tents were initially sent to survivors, and the government announced the construction of new houses expected to be built by the end of this year.
Yunus Koç, who moved in a prefabricated house with his wife and four children, thanked the state for the swift aid. “The state took good care of our family. This new container is fine and clean and definitely better than having to live in a tent,” he told Demirören News Agency (DHA).
Musa Tağgür, who moved into his new home with his wife, said their house was heavily damaged in the earthquake, and for 20 days, they either stayed in a tent or with a relative. “I am very happy. We went through bad times, but now I am grateful to the government for giving us this place,” he said.
The government announced last month that 200 apartments in 10 blocks will be constructed at first to cover the accommodation needs in the earthquake zone. Reconstruction efforts will not only cover central Elazığ but also the surrounding villages where smaller houses, mostly those made of adobe bricks, will be replaced with sturdier structures.

Turkey to roll out national disaster warning system
Turkey’s information technologies watchdog drafted regulations for the National Mobile Warning System (UYARSİS), a nationwide system to properly inform citizens before, during and after natural disasters and other emergencies.
Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) sought input from relevant agencies to put the final touches on UYARSİS, which will allow authorities to send warnings to citizens for natural disasters, incidents involving public security or cybersecurity threats. The system will be able to send information and warnings only to citizens who might be directly affected by disasters and other cases of emergency.
BTK will coordinate the system which will send text messages to citizens, make announcements and employ the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). Messages will also be sent to people using roaming service on their cellphones and to those who are not subscribers of Turkish mobile operators. Mobile operators will be required to build technical infrastructure to implement UYARSİS under the regulations. Messages will be delivered free of charge.
UYARSİS will also employ visual and voice messages to warn and inform elderly and disabled citizens.

Lokman Hekim Fethiye Belediyespor won their away match in Manisa with the final score: Manisa BŞK 78 – 86 Lokman Hekim Fethiye Belediye.
Many thanks go to the Fethiye supporters who travelled to Manisa and also to the Fethiye Girls Handball Team who came along to support the team.
This win places Fethiye at the top of the League Table.
There are now 9 matches left to play this season and next up is a home game against Samsunspor.
