17th International Ölüdeniz Air Games Dates Announced

The skies above Oludeniz, Turkey will once again be full of colourful and exciting chutes and some spectacular acrobatics this October.
The dates for this years International Ölüdeniz Air Games were announced at a press conference last week by the district governor Ekrem Calik and Fethiye town mayor Behcet Saatçi.
The event will take place between the 11th – 15th October 2016.
Hundreds of pilots, base jumpers, wingsuit flying, aerial acrobats and more, from many countries are expected to attend the five-day event so expect to see some world-class skills on display.
New Season for Football Fans
Fethiye’s own football team Fethiyespor played their first Sports Toto 2nd Division match of the new football season on Saturday evening.
They beat Fatih Karagümrük 2 : 1.
Bayram Preparations Begin

The Kurban Bayram (Eid Al-Adha) religious holiday takes place this year between 12th – 15th September.
Most of Turkey will be heading on to the roads and visiting friends and family or, as is now increasingly common, taking the whole week off for a holiday.
Security Measures On Show
Security measures were showcased last week when the local Jandarma invited the press to view the work they do to check vehicles entering Ovacik the gateway to Oludeniz.
As well as carrying out the traditional driver document and vehicle visual checks they also had the help of two furry workers.
Engel the drug sniffer dog and Ceza the explosives sniffer dog snuffled their way around luggage, car seats, car boots, trucks and delivery vans on the hunt for drugs and bomb material.
Engel earned ‘walkies’ during the day when, it was reported, she sniffed out 2.4g of cannabis.
Other checks resulted in 16 individuals being taken into custody for various offences.
Goodness Truck Rolled into Town
Health and Education Foundation for Children with Leukemia (LÖSEV) Goodness truck rolled into town last week.
The large articulated truck delivered food, clothing and toys to help 20 families with children suffering from Leukemia in Fethiye.
It also parked up on the promenade near the sea selling items and accepting donations for the charity.
The truck then headed on to Denizli from where it will then move on to the capital Ankara.
Paraglider Rescued
Babdag Mountain – A solo Paraglider was rescued on Saturday after he crashed into a tree on a steep slope shortly after take off.
The national medical team UMKE were called and rescued the 52 year old man who had suffered a broken arm.
He was taken to Fethiye Hospital for treatment.
Local reports stated that the local security service has launched an investigation into the incident.
Fire Caused Concerns
The local fire service were called out to deal with a large fire in a reed bed in Calis last week.
Staff from the nearby Daphne Residence and Jiva Beach Resort hotels were on standby to evacuate guests if the flames got too close.
The fire produced thick plumes of smoke that could be seen miles away in Fethiye.
The fire service were helped by locals who grabbed their own hoses to douse the flames and dampen the area.
No one was injured or property damaged.
The police are now studying cctv images to see if they can find any clues as to how the fire started.
Plug In Station Installed
Mobility scooter users in Fethiye who are running low on juice now have a place to recharge in town.
The Council has installed a new charging station just for them.
Turkish Money
The British Pound bought 3.92 Turkish Lira by the close of trading on Friday.
A Turkish Lira was worth 25 pence.
Last week the Britsih Pound bought 3.88 TL.
