2020 has been a very different year to the one we were all expecting. Whilst the Covid-19 pandemic has meant people around the globe have put their lives on hold, cancer hasn’t stopped!
This year, we can’t come together in a physical event but that’s not going to stop us.
Here’s a reminder of last year’s event to get you in the mood.
What’s happening this year?
From Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November Fethiye will be holding an Extraordinary 2020 Yaşam İçin Yarış
Run, walk or jog an Extraordinary 2020 Yaşam İçin Yarış during this week. Map out 5km from your home – along the seafront, around the streets where you live or round your garden, anywhere you choose is fine – and away you go.
You can do this on your own or with your family or other people from your household*.
All we ask is that you fundraise or make a donation to enable us to continue to help those undergoing treatment for cancer. We also need to be able to help others who haven’t yet been diagnosed or know what treatment they need.
And, we want to make big thing of it so we’ll also ask you to send in photographs and/or video clips for our Extraordinary 2020 Yaşam İçin Yarış album.
*Please don’t arrange large groups of people who don’t live in the same household as we are not officially able to organize this type of event due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Do I have to register?
You don’t have to register but please email us at yasamicinyaris@gmail.com to let us know who will be taking part and we’ll send you a number(s), name cloud(s) and sponsor form(s).
How much does it cost to take part?
An Extraordinary 2020 Yaşam İçin Yarış is free! All we ask is that you fundraise or donate what you can.
What about t-shirts?
We don’t have specific 2020 t-shirts but we do have boxes of t-shirts from previous years which will be on sale for anyone who would like to buy one.
Many of you will have t-shirts from previous years that you can wear.
This year, we want to mix it up and the t-shirts will represent the previous years of Yaşam İçin Yarış.

We’re in the process of sorting them out and we’ll let you know when and where they will be on sale.
Or, if you prefer, you can wear fancy dress. We do have regulars who love to dress up!

How can I fundraise?
Ask family and friends to sponsor you to complete your 5km run, jog or walk.
Your sponsors can make a donation in cash – we will give you details of how that will be managed in line with coronavirus measures, nearer the time.
Alternatively, your sponsors can make a donation via our official fundraising page (details to follow).
Ediz runs for Elsa
11 year-old Ediz Eken would normally be taking part in Yaşam İçin Yarış and this year he would be running in memory of his friend, Elsa McGee, aged 6, who lost her life to cancer earlier this year.

Due to Covid19, the event like many others has been cancelled. Funding for research into finding better treatments, simply can’t wait. So…
Ediz will be running the 5km around the official route – on his own – on Sunday 4th October when Elsa’s family are visiting Turkey.
The money raised by Ediz will be donated to Alice’s Arc in the UK, a charity who fund research in to childhood cancer to help find a cure and ease suffering, and Yaşam İçin Yarış in Turkey.
As long as we stick to the coronavirus measures, there’s no reason why we can’t have a limited number of people there to cheer Ediz on…
John runs for Fethiye
Fethiye resident, John Brett is a regular participant and generally goes the extra mile (or kilometre) to raise money for the cause. I’m sure you remember Superman from the 2018 event …that’s John.

This year John will be doing a special 22km run to raise money for Yaşam İçin Yarış and the patients we are committed to helping.
Watch out for full details coming soon!
Other fundraising ideas
Of course, there are many other ways of fundraising. If you’d like to carry out an activity to raise money during this week, please contact us and we’ll discuss it with you, add it to the plan and make sure you have the relevant permission.
Please remember, COVID-19 measures MUST be adhered to in all activities.
How much do we hope to raise?
As of 03 June (2019-2020 year) , we have spent 52,000 TL on cancer patients in Fethiye. We now have only 13,000TL remaining so urgently need to raise money.
Last year’s event raised 180,000TL. This year, to cover the anticipated costs, we are carrying out a financial review and will be setting a fundraising target.
What’s next?
Email us with the names and ages of those who will be taking part and we’ll send you an email with everything you need to know.
