34,437 tons of agricultural products exported from Fethiye

Fethiye has attracted attention with the amount of agricultural products exported this year.
Despite the pandemic measures, over a 9-month period, 34, 437 tons of products were exported to 24 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Kosovo, Georgia, Greece, Macedonia and Kazakhstan.
Among the products exported were, 32, 656 tons of tomatoes, 186 tons of green pepper, 115 tons of cucumbers and 67 tons of zucchini.
Authorities stated that exports will continue from the region until the end of the year.

WHO calls on Turkey to follow its COVID-19 reporting guides
The World Health Organization’s office in Turkey has reiterated its call for reporting COVID-19 data in line with WHO guidances to “harmonize data collection and response measures.”
WHO’s statement comes days after Turkey’s health minister revealed that the daily COVID-19 figures published by the ministry since July 29 reflected only patients with symptoms, excluding asymptomatic positive cases.
Critics have questioned the veracity of the case and death toll numbers Turkey has reported during the pandemic.
The WHO statement commended Turkey on its increased testing capacity and contact tracing efforts. It said, “Turkey has been isolating all COVID-19 positive cases, regardless of their symptoms.”
It added that the WHO has been consulting with members, including Turkey, to improve reporting and data collection.
The WHO defines confirmed cases as “a person with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 infection, irrespective of clinical signs and symptoms.”
But on Thursday, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca told reporters: “We are talking about people with symptoms. We are giving this as the daily number of patients.”
The latest official numbers from Sunday show 323,014 confirmed patients and 8,384 deaths from COVID-19 since March.

Swimming prohibited on iconic lake’s white beach as of October 15

Swimming in the White Islands area of Lake Salda, which come under the Special Environmental Protection Area (SEPA), will be banned from October 15, Turkey’s Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum has announced.
Due to the increase in the number of visitors, the beach at the White Islands (Beyaz Adalar) area has been severely damaged.
Located in Burdur’s Yeşilova district, a 295-kilometer area around the lake was declared SEPA in 2019.
The lake is symbolized as “Turkey’s Maldives,” thanks to its pearl-white sandy beaches.
Banning swimming is the latest in a number of measures taken to protect the area and keep the lake beautiful for generations to come.,
Previous measures taken to protect the lake include banning construction and parking of cars.
New high-speed metro line to Istanbul Airport to be opened by April 2021

Turkey’s Transportation and Infrastructure Minister said on Saturday that Istanbul’s new metro line connecting the heart of the city to the mega Istanbul Airport will be opened by the end of April 2021.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the metro construction, Adil Karaismailoğlu noted that the first part of the project between Kağıthane district and Istanbul airport will initially be opened, while the second part between Halkalı district and the airport is planned to be completed in 2022.
“4,500 personnel are currently working to complete the project. With the completion of the ongoing projects, Istanbul’s metro network will reach 324 kilometers,” he said.
The new line will whisk passengers from Gayrettepe, in Şişli on Istanbul’s European side, to the new airport in just 35 minutes.
The subway will stretch 37.5 kilometers (23.3 miles), includes nine stations and will be the country’s fastest metro line, operating at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour).
The line is expected to serve around 600,000 Istanbulites per day. It will pass through the districts of Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kağıthane, Eyüp and Arnavutköy and is expected to significantly reduce the city’s traffic load.

Turkey marks World Animal Day

As a country famed for its treatment of strays, Turkey marked World Animal Day with dozens of events to celebrate humankind’s coexistence with animals, while top officials pledged to do more
Pet owners took to the streets and top government officials vowed to revamp and expand animal rights laws as Turkey marked World Animal Day, an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on Oct. 4.
The day saw several events to raise awareness for the fragile existence of cats and dogs in Turkey’s streets, while more than 230 nongovernmental organizations (NGO) in a joint statement called for a wide-ranging ban on all sorts of hunting.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli promised the long-awaited animal rights bill would be finalized as soon as possible.
Sharing a message to mark the day on Saturday, Pakdemirli said animals had the right to live as much as humans did.
“They are living beings just like us, and they have the right to live just as much. With that in mind, we carry out projects for both stray and wild animals. We are also working toward introducing legislative changes to stop cruelty against animals,” Pakdemirli wrote.

New transfers to Fethiyespor
Fethiyespor signed a contract with 25-year-old midfielder Fatih Somuncu, who transfers in from Payasspor.
During his early career, Fatih played for Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe youth teams and in his professional career, he played for Çanakkale Dardanelspor, Turgutluspor, and Çankaya Fk.

Fethiyespor also signed an agreement with Ali Han Tunçer, a 26-year-old winger from TFF 1st League team, Ümraniyespor.
Ali Han played for Kocaelispor last season, and previously for Trabzonspor, Bandırmaspor, and Kırşehir Belediyespor.
