60 bicycles have been donated to children in poor families in the Menteşeoğlu Neighborhood as part of a project introduced by Neighbourhod Headman Ramazan Küçük.

Küçük had previously donated 40 bicycles to children in the area and, on Friday, a further 20 bicycles, provided with the support of Charitable Assembly Member Fatih Ugan and benefactors, were presented to the children.

The presentation was attended by Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca who said, “We should run such campaigns in 41 neighborhoods. Our children and students have various needs and currently they also need tablets. As the municipality, we try to support as much as we can, but we can only distribute tablets within our budget. I would like to call on all businessmen who want to support these projects. Please, let’s meet the needs of our children with poor socioeconomic status in our region, especially those who need tablets for their education. I thank our headman for his sensitivity ”.

Whilst many businesses are suffering as a result of the pandemic, agriculture in the Fethiye area isn’t one of them

In a statement on Friday, Fethiye Association President Hal Western Mediterranean Vegetables and Fruit Brokers, Turkey Haller Federation board member Atabay Akgün stated that approximately 42 thousand tons of fresh fruit and vegetables were exported in 2020. Produce is exported to different countries in Europe and, due to production difficulties in Spain, Italy and Greece, imports from Turkey have increased. Normal exports from the area are between 48 and 50 thousand tons.

Kenan Karayiğit, President of Fethiye Chamber of Agriculture said, “I would like to thank our farmers and producers for their work during the pandemic period. I would like to thank all our brokers who ship the products of our farmers and producers abroad, and our president Atabey Akgün for their efforts. A ceremony was held to launch the ship, which will first dock at the Italian Port of Trieste before being carried to Croatia via UND member firms.

Alper Ozal, chief executive officer of UND, said Turkey shares the pain of Croatia.

“We are sending AFAD’s aid houses to the people of Croatia,” he said, adding that 50 vehicles are participating in the operation to deliver the houses.

A powerful magnitude-6.3 quake Dec. 29 rocked Petrinja, killing seven people and injured 27 others.

Fethiye Times News – Week Ending 10 January 2021

TikTok announced on Friday that it will set up a legal entity in Turkey to serve as a local representative, a move that followed a series of other social media platforms, including YouTube.

Appointing a representative in Turkey came under the amendment of the law, which took effect on Oct. 1, 2020. The new rule covers social media companies that have daily access to more than 1 million from Turkey.

In early December, social media networks, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube, were each handed TL 30 million ($3.83 million) in fines for failing to appoint a representative for Turkey, as required by the new law. The fine was the second sanction following TL 10 million in fines delivered on November 4, 2020.

After these fines, on December 16, 2020, YouTube announced that it will appoint a representative to Turkey.

Following TikTok’s announcement, Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan stated on his Twitter account that they welcome TikTok’s decision.
