Fethiye Times News – Week Ending 7 March 2021

Turkish National Police General Directorate of Combating Immigrant Smuggling and Border Gates, Özer Korkmaz, and Muğla Provincial Police Chief Suvat Dilberoğlu, visited Fethiye on Friday to carry out inspections on the sea border gates.

Current processes were evaluated and areas for improvement identified. Sea border gates are quieter than normal due to the pandemic, an ideal time to carry out the inspections and make any changes necessary for the security of the country and to ensure tourists arriving in boats are unable to bypass entry restrictions due to the pandemic.

In a statement, Özer Korkmaz, Head of the Department of Anti-Immigrant Smuggling and Border Gates said, “Our province with the largest sea border is Muğla and we have 11 border gates in Muğla Ports, two of which are located within the borders of Göcek and Fethiye. We felt that these ports should be revised in terms of both the security of the country and for the comfort of visitors during the tourist season. We discussed the problems that may arise in the future after our determinations regarding both security and construction and we are also in talks with our Coast Guard Directorate. No tourist can travel within the borders of our country on their own and they will not be able to anchor their boats to any island or bay.”

“This is not a garbage dump!”

Fethiye Municipality Cleaning Affairs Manager Mahmut Bayraktar called for citizens to be more sensitive to the beauty of the area saying, “This is not a garbage dump, but a place known as Lovers’ Hill with a unique view of the beauty of Fethiye. But when we travel with our teams, we see that there is broken glass everywhere. There’s a lot of rubbish. Our request to our citizens, please, leave what you eat and drink in the garbage containers. The bottles thrown down the hill are shattered. Our teams are constantly cleaning here, but please let’s not litter the floors. Let’s keep our Fethiye clean.”
