As Fethiye Times reported earlier this month, from Tuesday through to Saturday, the 17th Fethiye Ölüdeniz Air Games – the highlight of Turkey’s paragliding year – will be offering participants and spectators alike a celebration of action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled airborne sport.

The Air Games – now called the Fethiye Ölüdeniz Air Games – has earned a well-deserved reputation over the last 17 years for being the ultimate airborne spectacular in this part of the world. You can be sure that there will be plenty of high flying from 11th – 15th October and for those in the air, as well as those on the ground, the atmosphere will be buzzing.

Organised by Fethiye’s municipality, the skies above Ölüdeniz will again be full of colourful chutes, whirling, spinning and floating over the iconic coastline and turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
Once the official opening has taken place on the 1,700 metre summit of Babdağ – the region’s most famous mountain – the flying and fun will begin.
Expect things to get going at about 10:30 and continue well into the evening.
Air games reaches new heights
For those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground there will be plenty of activities on the beach area too.
As well as Ölüdeniz, this year there will also be events in the main town square (Beşkaza) in Fethiye and also in Göcek.
Although the focus of the Air Games is paragliding and aerial acrobatics par-excellence by world class pilots, there will also be microlites, motorized paragliders and model airplanes buzzing through the sky. They will be joined by hang-gliding, speed flying, base jumping experts. And there will be more besides… as the Air Games goes to new heights.

Airborne artistry
If you plan to be in the area next week, or already live in the region, be sure to take some time out to see some spectacular feats of flying. Some of the most accomplished paragliders and airborne acrobats in the world will be displaying their skills.
From Tuesday morning an information booth on the seafront in Ölüdeniz will provide more information.
