October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.
Whilst Yaşam İçin Yarış doesn’t focus its fundraising specifically for one type of cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women in Turkey. These statistics are reflected in the number of breast cancer sufferers supported by the HOPE Cancer Support Group.
Here in Fethiye, October is also the month when Yaşam İçin Yaris (Race For Life Turkey) takes place.
Covid-19 prevented us from running the usual event in 2020, but cancer doesn’t wait and instead the people of Fethiye and Dalyan took part in an Extraordinary 2020 Yaşam İçin Yarış and ran, jogged or walked 5km from their home.
Our fabulous supporters rose to the challenge and raised a fantastic 67,982 TL which allowed us to continue to support our patients in the Fethiye area undergoing treatment for cancer.
What’s happening this year?
Many people are nervous about attending large gatherings of people due to Covid-19 and so we won’t be getting the ball rolling on organising an event just yet.
But we will be asking you to take action against cancer by walking, jogging or running …
5K Any Way
From Monday 25th October to Sunday 31st October, 2021, we will be asking you to run, walk or jog 5km from your home. You can choose any route you prefer – along the seafront, around the streets where you live, along the official Yaşam İçin Yarış route – anywhere is fine.
Pick your date, dig out a t-shirt from previous years – or wear fancy dress – and away you go.
You can do this on your own, or with your family or you can arrange to walk in a group.
And if you would prefer to cycle to support the event, that’s fine too.
All we ask is that you fundraise or make a donation to enable us to continue to help those undergoing treatment for cancer. We also need to be able to help others who haven’t yet been diagnosed or know what treatment they need.
Once again, we’ll ask you to send in photographs and/or video clips for our 5K Any Way album.
Do I have to register?
You don’t have to register but please email us at yasamicinyaris@gmail.com to let us know who will be taking part and we’ll send you a number(s), name cloud(s) and sponsor form(s).
How can I fundraise?
Ask family and friends to sponsor you to complete your 5km run, jog or walk.
Hold a fundraising activity.
