Rain and storms cause disruption in Muğla
Many areas of Muğla were affected by heavy rain, lightning storms and strong winds on Friday and Saturday.
Torrential rain which lasted for an hour on Saturday evening, caused disruption in Fethiye with roads under water and shops and businesses flooded.
In Datça, strong winds caused a luxury boat to break free of its moorings in the harbour, drift into rocks and sink. The boat was unable to be saved due to adverse weather conditions.
In Bodrum, the wind dragged a 10-meter-long sailing tirhandil ashore where it fell onto its side, and huge waves caused boats moored at the Halicarnassus pier to crash into each other, sinking an inflatable boat and damaging many others.

Fire crews bring new wildfire in Antalya under control
Southern Turkey’s coastal regions have been battling an unprecedented number of wildfires throughout the summer, the latest of which broke out in Antalya’s Kemer district which fortunately has been brought under control according to authorities.
A fire broke out in the forest area in Göynük Mahallesi, Üçoluk Plateau on Tuesday evening for an undetermined reason. It is believed that a lightning bolt hit the forest during the evening when there was heavy rain in the area.
A large number of forest workers, 13 sprinklers, two dozers and four helicopters with the Antalya Regional Directorate of Forestry, responded to the flames that spread in a short time amid gusty winds.
As a result of the intense intervention of the teams, the fire burning in the steep and rocky area was brought under control.
Approximately 7 hectares (17 acres) of forest area was damaged in the fire.

Re-erected columns to revive Temple of Zeus in SW Turkey
The Temple of Zeus Lepsynos, located in the ancient city of Euromos in southwestern Turkey, will rise again following the resurrection of newly excavated columns.
Euromos is one of the important cities of Caria – the ancient name for the southwestern region of Anatolia’s Aegean shores. The ancient city is a draw for visitors interested in discovering the area’s historical richness and archaeological significance. Along with the Temple of Zeus, Euromos features an ancient theater, agora and necropolis.
While excavations continue in the ancient city, which was built in the second century B.C. in the Milas district of Muğla province, work is being carried out to re-erect the timeless columns of the 1,860-year-old Temple of Zeus Lepsynos in the archaeological site.
Head of the excavation Abuzer Kızıl of Muğla Sıtkı Kocaman University told Anadolu Agency (AA): “The Temple of Zeus in this ancient city is one of the best-preserved temples in Anatolia. One of our most important projects during our works on this temple was the rebuilding of the architectural blocks. By making this beautiful temple a little more magnificent, we will add it to the world’s cultural heritage.”
Kızıl remarked that it is a very difficult task to re-erect the blocks because of wear and tear over time. He said that archaeologists found broken pieces of the columns by searching hundreds of pieces, and then cleaned and restored them.
“We use chrome rods to join the large architectural blocks,” he said. “After we put the columns together, we will put them back in their original places with their pedestals as in the ancient period.”
Currently, 16 columns are standing and 10 will be raised with their upper beams.
