Legendary Turkish singer Selda Bağcan performs in Fethiye
Known around the world mononymously as ‘Selda’; the legendary Turkish singer Selda Bağcan is not only recognized for her unique protest- folk-psychedelic-rock sound but also for that powerful voice that cries for the struggles and inequality of the working- class, and injustices around the world.
Performing in more than 15 countries, Selda’s music is a prime example of music transcending language and culture.
On Friday, Selda took the stage at Beşkaza Square as part of the 98th anniversary activities of Fethiye Municipality Republic Day. Selda sang her most popular songs together with thousands of Fethiye residents.
The concert planned by Fethiye Municipality on October 30 was moved to November 5 due to bad weather conditions. The concert, which started with Fethiye artists Adem Kazan and Ali Tunç, continued with Selda Bağcan taking the stage after which, Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca took the stage and presented flowers to Selda.

Fog causes disruption in Istanbul
Heavy fog led to a disruption of vessel traffic late on November 6 in Turkey’s Bosporus Strait, causing delays in air and sea traffic. Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport was closed to air traffic and ferry services were also suspended due to the fog.
Residents in Bodrum’ who are not accustomed to foggy weather, were also shocked by the fog which shrouded the area reducing visibility both on the roads and at sea.
Vehicle speeds were reduced as drivers crept slowly through the fog and fishing boats proceeded cautiously due to the fog over Güllük Bay.

Paris Climate Agreement to take effect in Turkey next week
The Paris Climate Agreement will enter into effect next week in Turkey, according to a decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after its ratification by Parliament in October.
The date the agreement would become effective in the country was determined as Nov. 10, 2021, according to a presidential decree published Thursday in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, Turkey will adopt the target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2053.
All political parties in Turkey’s Parliament voted “yes” to the agreement in October.
The landmark 2015 accord commits nations to limit global temperature rises to “well below” 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels through sweeping emissions cuts. Emissions have continued to rise in the six years since the deal, while the latest round of national carbon-cutting pledges puts Earth on track to warm a “catastrophic” 2.7 degrees Celsius this century, according to a U.N. assessment.
Turkey’s Marmara Sea receives new environmental protection status
presidential decree issued Friday declared Turkey’s only landlocked sea and the Princes’ Islands it hosts a “special environmental protection zone,” a title that will help its preservation.
The decree published by the Official Gazette brings new regulations for any activity in the sea, in a bid to protect its waters which suffered from heavy pollution. The Marmara Sea, which covers an area of 11,350 square kilometers (4,382 square miles), is the smallest in the country but is vital to the country’s most populated and industrial cities, from Istanbul to Kocaeli.
Last spring, it fell victim to marine mucilage or sea snot, a thick substance that formed a layer that covered swathes of waters, from coasts to open water. The slimy substance, a consequence of pollution among other factors, suffocated the ecosystem before a cleanup campaign eradicated it above the surface. Turkey plans wage hikes, tax cuts for low-income families hit by inflation
Turkey’s government is preparing to boost wages and cut some taxes to support lower-income households that are battling high inflation, according to two senior officials familiar with the plan to tap the country’s relatively strong budget.
The officials, who requested anonymity because plans are not yet public, said the fiscal support would aim to offset pressure on more vulnerable households from inflation running near 20%.
The Treasury and Finance Ministry declined to comment. Family and Social Services Minister Derya Yanik said on Monday that 2.5 billion lira in aid will be provided to ease fuel and electricity expenses for needy citizens during the winter.
Among the options being considered is lifting the minimum wage by more than the inflation rate, as well as providing relief on the rising cost of energy and raising the salaries for some civil servants, the officials told Reuters.
