Fethiye Ölüdeniz Cable Car Project
Soon visitors will be able to take a trip to the top of the world famous Babadag mountain in just 7 minutes when a new cable car is built.
The Babadag mountain range rises out of the Fethiye Plain and stretches south 60km to the west end of the Patara Beach.
The highest peak is known as Babadag (Father mountain) and towers some 1,967 Metres (6,450 ft) above sea level and dominates the skyline of Fethiye, Ovacik. Hisaronu and Oludeniz.
The view from the peak is breathtaking.
It is also the most popular launch site in Turkey for paragliding and now welcomes well over 100,000 thrill seekers a year.
But getting all those people to the top of the mountain has been a challenge.
The idea of a cable car to do that job was first reported as far back as 2008.
Then in 2011 plans were drawn up to show how it might work.
Then it all went quiet.
But last week that all changed.
Last week the government announced that it will be seeking bids for a build, operate, transfer contract worth around €15 million from interested companies.
That means the successful company will build, operate and then hand back the cable car to the government after an agreed period in which time they will have recovered their build costs and made a profit.
The original Gocek Tunnel and the Dalaman International Airport were tendered on a similar basis.
The first passengers should be able to travel in the new 8 person cable cars in May/June 2018.
Babdag Cable Car – Faster, Safer and Higher
Clik here to view.

Currently it can take can take up to half an hour to make the journey via a vehicle.
That journey can be a nail-biting journey for some on the winding mountain road.
The new cable car will take just 6-7 minutes.
The cable car will start from Ovacik, Yasdam Cadessi and then make its way to 1,700m, site of the cafe and main paragliding launch pad.
A separate ski lift will be built to take those people who want to go right to the 1,900m summit.
We expect to learn the price of a ticket in due course.
