Facelift for the Fethiye cycle track
Teams from Fethiye Municipality were busy repainting the Fethiye cycle track this week. Earlier in the year, renovation work was carried out on the “tartan track” walking path along the 2nd and 3rd stages of the Fethiye promenade. Both tracks were showing signs of wear.
The newly painted cycle path now has pedestrian crossing points.

Muğla hosts 1 million 73 thousand tourists in 10 months
1 million 73 thousand foreign tourists visited Muğla in the first 10 months of 2021 compared to 692 thousand foreign tourists in the same period in 2020, a 55 per cent increase.
The highest number of tourists were from Russia with 287 thousand 702 people followed by Ukraine with 273 thousand 786 people, Germany with 88 thousand 670 people and Poland with 85 thousand 298 people. Russia and Ukraine made up 57 per cent of the tourists who came to Muğla.
Visitors from the United Kingdom to Muğla numbered 1 million 500 thousand tourists annually before the pandemic. This year, after the flight ban was lifted on September 23, 59 thousand British tourists came within a month.

Turkey re-elected as UNESCO executive body member
Turkey has been re-elected for another term in UNESCO’s highest executive body, the government announced on Wednesday.
Turkey’s reelection to UNESCO’s highest body for another four years will provide “significant motivation” for its future work, the country’s deputy foreign minister said on Thursday.
“We place great importance on the representation of our cultural values on a global scale,” Yavuz Selim Kiran told Anadolu Agency in Paris, where UNESCO is having its General Conference.
Turkey so far boasts 19 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and 20 entries on the Intangible Cultural Heritage List, Kiran added that this number “should grow.”

Turkey due to put famed touristic Eastern Express back on tracks
Turkey is due to restart its famed touristic railway route that runs from the country’s capital to the snow-covered east, the country’s infrastructure and transport minister said Tuesday.
Turkey’s mainline trains, including the Eastern Express, were paused last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first Eastern Express train will depart from the capital Ankara on its journey to eastern Kars province on Dec. 15, Adil Karaismailoğlu said in a statement. The first train from Kars will leave two days later.
Trains will depart from the capital every Wednesday and Friday, while they will leave Kars on Fridays and Sundays, the minister said.
After leaving Ankara, the Eastern Express makes brief stops in the eastern cities of Kırıkkale, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan and Erzurum before reaching Kars. The 1,300-kilometer (808-mile) long route lasts nearly 32 hours.

Turkish lira on eight-day spiral to all-time lows
Turkey’s lira gave up earlier gains and dropped as much as 2% to a new record low on Friday, a day after crashing 6% when the central bank, under pressure from President Tayyip Erdoğan, slashed rates and signalled more risky easing was on the way.
The lira first rallied to 10.83 against the dollar before fizzling to 11.32, notching an eighth straight session of all-time lows. It was worth 11.2 at 1632 GMT, raising risks for the economy and for Erdoğan’s political future.
The worst performer in emerging markets, the lira has plunged some 12% this week alone, propelled by the central bank’s decision to cut its policy rate by 100 basis points to 15% despite inflation running near 20%. Read more…

Turkey win in Montenegro to secure World Cup playoff spot
Turkey’s national team qualified for playoffs after scoring two goals against Montenegro in the World Cup 2022 qualifiers match at the Podgorica City Stadium in Montenegro on Tuesday, in a 2-1 victory.
Turkey booked a World Cup playoff spot as they recovered to edge Montenegro 2-1 away on Tuesday to finish second in Group G behind automatic qualifiers Netherlands and ahead of Norway.
The Dutch beat Norway 2-0 to top the group with 23 points from 10 games ahead of Turkey with 21 points and Norway on 18.
Montenegro finished fourth in the table with 12 points.

Fethiye Falcons RLFC are about to embark on their debut season under TRL banner in Turkey and with that brings a challenge to the newly formed Rugby League team…
Where do you find the next Turkish Rugby League Icon?
The club are holding a talent identification process in order to find new players for the squad ahead of the season in 2022.
An on-field session will be held in Fethiye and will target the key areas of strength, speed, agility and fitness.
No previous experience of Rugby League is required and athletes from other sports are being encouraged to apply on WhatsApp (+90 551 038 62 42).
Players who are successful in the process will then be invited to join Brad Roby’s squad for their debut TRL campaign.
Last week, it was confirmed The Falcons would be in an expanded campaign alongside the best teams in Turkey.
The registration process is about to start and although Fethiye Falcons won’t be involved, there will be a 9’s tournament in Istanbul on 28th November 2021 & 12th December 2021.
This news comes in a week where the Falcons signed Ibo Eyiden from Australia for the upcoming season.
