Heavy rain that fell in Fethiye over a 24 hour period caused floods in the town centre on Wednesday, with many businesses on Çarşı and Dispenser streets struggling to keep the water at bay. The rain also brought the first snow of the year to Akdağ.
In Marmaris, strong winds reached 40 kilometres per hour on Saturday, blew pots, tables and chairs around the frontages of shops and restaurants and caused a 35-meter excursion boat to run aground.
Municipality teams were out cleaning the debris left by 4-metre waves during the storm.
In Datça-Bodrum, ferry services were cancelled due to the storm, and fishing boats could not leave the bays. 60 kilometres per hour winds caused 2-metre waves that reached the balconies of businesses on the beach.
According to the directive issued by Muğla Governor’s Office, winter tires will be mandatory between December 1 and April 1 in the following areas:
Muğla / Denizli, Muğla (Seydikemer) / Antalya (Korkuteli) State Highway, the roads of the Kavaklıdere District where there is snowfall and in the Menteşe District Yılanlı location to the provincial borders of Denizli.

Turkey set to generate $22B from tourism in 2021
Tourism income in Turkey reached $16.8 billion during the first nine months of 2021, as the country plans to welcome more than 28 million foreign tourists by the end of the year.

Turkey has set a plan to generate $22 billion from tourism in 2021, despite a huge Covid-19 impact on the industry worldwide.
Turkey is ready to welcome more than 28 million foreign tourists in 2021, Turkish culture and tourism minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said on Wednesday.
Turkey’s promotional efforts have played a key role in the recovery, Ersoy told participants at a two-day Economy Summit, which kicked off at a ski resort in the northwestern province of Bursa on Wednesday.
Ersoy said that the nation’s tourism revenues reached $16.8 billion during the first nine months of 2021, while they stood at $12.1 billion in 2020.
Turkey’s southern resort city, Antalya, has kept its title as ‘the most popular Mediterranean destination’ for the second consecutive time after hosting the highest number of visitors in the region.
The city, with its 680,000-bed capacity, hosted 8.6 million tourists in 10 months.
Tourists from more than 60 countries visited the city this year, with visitors from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and Poland and the UK topping the list.
Antalya alone is aiming to reach 9 million tourists mark this year.

Underwater history resurfaces: 255 artifacts found in Turkish seas
Ongoing excavations and research in the seas of Turkey, where the world’s first scientific archeological underwater excavations were carried out, have revealed 255 artifacts this year
Underwater archaeological excavation and research in Turkey was started with the work on the Bronze Age Gelidonya Shipwreck, near the Finike district of Antalya province in 1960. Turkish scientists and divers have continued to bring important cultural heritage up from the depths of the blue waters ever since.
The wreckage of the world’s oldest trade ship from the Bronze Age is among the important discoveries of the latest archaeological excavations.
Efforts are also underway to establish underwater archaeology museums on the coasts of Turkey’s seas so that the artifacts that have been discovered in the scientific, underwater studies can be exhibited. Read more here …

Restoration at Edirne’s UNESCO-listed Selimiye Mosque begins
Comprehensive restoration work on the UNESCO World Heritage site Selimiye Mosque, regarded as the peak of Turkish-Islamic architecture, has begun in the northwestern Edirne province.
The Turkish lira plunged to record lows this week after President Erdoğan pledged to stick with a policy of easing interest rates. It has lost as much as 45 per cent of its value this year, with about half of those losses in the last two weeks.
The lira was among the top losers this year, losing nearly 90% of its value against the US dollar since the beginning of the year and down over 40% in November, which marks the currency’s record monthly fall.
Extremely unfavorable conditions, such as high inflation which holds near 20%, driven by rise in food and import prices, especially strong rise in energy prices, prolonged supply constraints and increased costs of economic reopening after the pandemic, kept the lira under increased pressure.
Low liquidity also contributed to lira’s recent sharp moves which pushed the currency beyond any expectations and deeply into uncharted territory.
The actions of the Turkish central bank which cut the interest rates by 400 basis points since August, lowering the rate from 19% to the current 15%, with signs that the CBRT is on the way to further lower the borrowing cost in December, strongly influenced lira’s performance.
The outlook for lira is expected to remain weak and suggesting that Turkish currency could fall further unless fundamentals change significantly.
