In the warm autumn sunshine and under a cloudless blue sky, the final day of the Fethiye Ölüdeniz Air Games 2016 was a truly awesome spectacle. In addition to a display of world class aerial sports, the resort was shown at its best; as a beautiful, lively, action-packed location – where the participants and throngs of spectators all had a marvellous time.

An audience of thousands watched the culmination of the five day event and were given a final chance to see pilots from all over the world perform some extraordinary feats of skill and endurance.
The day saw many unrivalled displays of paragliding, skydiving, base jumping, hang gliding, para-motor flights, microlights, delta wing flights, wingsuit flights, base jumping from a parachute in the air and aerial acrobatics.
The sky above Ölüdeniz provided a constant backdrop for these incredible spectacles, while the team of organisers made sure the schedule ran smoothly on the ground.

Thanks for a wonderful event
It is no exaggeration to say that this year’s Air Games has been an exceptional event – one of which Turkey should be proud. It is also fair to say that none of this would have happened without the hard work of the organisers, all of whom deserve a huge thank you.
Among the talented pilots at this year’s Air Games special thanks go to: some of the world’s top acrobatic paragliders, including: Horacio Llorens Fernandez from Spain; Alain Lehoux from France; Sebastian Kahn from Austria; Veso Ovharov from Bulgaria and Petar Loncar from Serbia.
New to Ölüdeniz this year were two brilliant female pilots: Christina Kolb, who last month took first place in the women’s world acrobatic competition, and Austria’s top female paragliding aerobatics pilot, Vera Emmeneg – the presence of these two talented women at the Air Games is a significant development for the event.
Sam Laming from the UK, Marina Samsonenko from Russia, Mesut Turan and Arif Kemal Bukhara from Turkey also demonstrated their astonishing wingsuit skills at this year’s air games.
Gas Kirby and Scott Miller from the UK, Jp De Kam from the Netherlands and Turkey’s Cengiz Koçak, Hasan Dökmetepelioğlu and Samet Baydar put on an awesome display of base jumping.
Master paramotor pilot, Erdoğan Şanslı, put on a remarkable display when he dipped his toes in the sea as he flew, and buzzed just above ground level, dragging his boots, in what the spectators were told was an incredibly risky maneuver.
For those of us with our feet planted firmly on the ground everything we saw on Saturday – and the rest of the event – was at an unsurpassable level of excellence.
And obviously one youngster in particular, has already got throughly hooked…
