A success for Fethiye at Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT-2022)
As one of the top five tourism exhibitions worldwide, the Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT) annually attracts large numbers of industry professionals and tourists looking for new travel opportunities from destinations and travel service companies from across the globe.
Organized for the 25th time this year, EMITT, held at the Istanbul TÜYAP Congress and Fair Center in Istanbul, attracted participants from many countries as well as from provinces and districts in Turkey.
The promotional stand for Fethiye attracted a huge amount of interest and highlighted Fethiye as one of the important places for tourism in Turkiye and was awarded the stand that best reflects the atmosphere of the region in the destinations category.
Areas from Ölüdeniz to Babadağ, Çalış and Göcek, were promoted on the Fethiye stand by Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca, representatives from Fethiye, and tourism professionals.
Visitors to the stand watched a short film in which the beauties of Fethiye were introduced on the giant screen and had the opportunity to experience paragliding with 3D virtual reality glasses. Visitors were also presented with a Lycian Walking Paths book, bookmarks and magnets with images of Fethiye’s destinations, and soap with laurel, sage and bay leaf.
Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca, who said that they have completed their preparations for the tourism season, said, “Due to the pandemic, tourism workers both abroad and in the country were badly affected. We expect both domestic and international visitors in the coming season.”
Mayor Karaca went on to say that all infrastructure works in Fethiye will be completed as of 30 May. “We will continue to work non-stop as we have to complete the work before the season. We are expecting a serious number of tourists this summer with numbers increasing from 600 thousand to 1 million 700 thousand, in line with the data we have received from the tourism sector. We will really break a record this summer.”
Evaluating the fair, FTSO Chairman of the Board Osman Çıralı stated that the fair was very productive for Fethiye and gave signs that 2022 will be active in terms of regional tourism saying,
“It is very important for us to be at EMITT, one of the largest fairs in the world, and to promote our Fethiye. Our stand, which is the center of attention, brought together Fethiye lovers. Our agencies and hotels held one-on-one interviews, and we reached out to the participants with our brochures. EMITT is a very important fair that unites all provinces and districts of Turkiye. We introduced Muğla and our region in the best way possible.”
Increasing prices and energy cost hikes were a priority topic of discussion at the fair, with representatives of the tourism sector discussing the uncertainty of costs making it very difficult to give prices, even though they are hopeful for the new season.

Tourism revenue target of $35 billion within reach, says Culture and Tourism Minister
Initial indicators, such as early reservations, suggest that Turkiye’s target set for 2022 of generating $35 billion in tourism revenues is attainable, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has said.
Data in the first 40 days of this year, particularly for Istanbul and Antalya, show arrivals are close to their 2019 levels when the country’s tourism revenues reached an all-time-high, Ersoy said in a speech he delivered at the 25th East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Exhibition (EMITT).
“Early reservations increased compared with last year. All those indicate our target of generating $35 billion in revenues is well within reach,” the minister said.
This year campaigns will be launched, to be coordinated by the TGA, particularly targeting holidaymakers in Central Europe, the Baltics and Gulf countries as well as the U.S., Ersoy said.
Promotional videos will be aired on TV channels in 21 nations, advertisements will be published and launched in print press in 15 countries and on digital platforms in 86 countries, respectively, according Ersoy.
“We are also developing stronger ties and increasing cooperation with the leading tour operators abroad to fully exploit Turkey’s potential and lure even more foreign tourists to the country,” the minister said.
