Concerned stakeholders have already initiated an injunction to stop the privatisation of the Göcek Islands last week. Despite the reaction, a tender was also initiated for the lease of the operation of Inlice Bay.
The press release was read by Ayşe Döner from the people of Inlice Mahallesi. “We are resisting here for the protection of the ecosystem,” the statement said. “This is a historical area. Our region is also the place of Caretta carettas. This is a public beach. We do not want our beach to be privatized. Many beaches are privatized in this area. The people of this place protected the forests here during the fire period. We, as the people, take care of the trees here. This beach cannot be taken away from the public. We are against the sale of beaches through auctions. There are only 2 free public beaches left in our area. One is Karaot and the other is Inlice Beach. We should all take care of our beach. If this beach is privatised, thousands of people will come here. We will not give this beach to anyone.”
After the press release, citizens formed a human wall along the coastline in protest.
Inlice Beach is one of the two remaining free public beaches in the area operated by Fethiye Municipality.

Citizens had the opportunity to walk barefoot along the 150-meter-long and 2.5-meter-wide royal road to rabbit island, where the ancient city is located. The spring tide causes the water to recede at this time each year, sometimes revealing the road.

Turkey forward Burak Yılmaz quits national team after penalty drama
Turkey forward Burak Yılmaz ended his national team career following a penalty drama against Portugal during the World Cup qualifier match on Thursday.
Turkey was knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing to Portugal 3-1 in a European Qualifiers playoff semifinal.
Near the end of the match at Porto’s Dragao Stadium, when the score was 2-1, Turkey had a great chance to tie the score after it was awarded a penalty following a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
But the 36-year-old player, who scored Turkey’s first goal following a one-two with Cengiz Ünder, fired the penalty over the bar and failed to level the match.
Yılmaz scored 31 goals in 77 appearances for Turkey since his debut in April 2006. He is the national team’s second-highest all-time scorer.
