Resurfacing work in Fethiye continues apace
Infrastructure works in 137 street, located right next to İnönü Boulevard, have been completed and a new parquet surface laid by Fethiye Municipality.
Asphalt surface is being laid on İnönü Boulevard.
Work to replace the sewage collector line on Mustafa Kemal Boulevard is now complete and Municipality teams are working to lay the asphalt surface.
Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca, who has closely followed the progress of the work, said “We continue to take bold steps to create a Fethiye that looks firmly to the future.”

Çalış gets ready for Bayram visitors and the season
Last week the beach in Çalış was cleaned in readiness for the season and this week, tables and chairs were moved back to the business frontages and teams from the Cleaning Affairs Directorate were out cleaning the promenade in readiness for Bayram and the summer season.
People who continue to ignore the signs prohibiting the use of motorcycles and electric bikes on the promenade in Çalış will be subject to penalties from the 1st of May. This does not apply to bicycles, mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs.
Fines starting from 600 TL will be levied against offenders.

First fire fighting helicopter starts work in Muğla
The first fire helicopter arrived in Muğla on Saturday.
The helicopter will be stationed in Marmaris Değirmenyanı and has a crew of 2 pilots, 1 observer pilot, 1 technician and 1 staff member to serve on behalf of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry (OGM).
After the necessary test flights, it will officially start its duty on 1 May. Four more helicopters will come to the region in the coming days and will be stationed in Fethiye, Yatağan, Milas and Nazilli.
Muğla is a first-degree risk area in terms of forest fires with the potential threat of forest fires increasing with the warming of the weather.

Turkey’s Sümela monastery set to reopen after rock risk
The historic Sümela monastery in northern Turkey opened fully on Sunday after work was carried out to reinforce the rock face above the monastery.
The monastery, an architectural wonder on the face of a steep mountain in Trabzon province, is situated under a massive rock weighing 360 tons that protruded from the slope, precariously dangling over the monastery. Steel stakes, each 16 meters (52.4 feet) long, were used to reinforce the rock, to keep it in its place.
The massive rocks atop the site had forced authorities to take extra measures as erosion over time made them even more dangerous. Explosives were used to tear apart part of the rock while climbers installed steel nets against the fall of pieces from the rock. Comprehensive work has been underway since November 2021 to keep the rock intact with steel stakes.
It is included in UNESCO’s temporary list of World Heritage sites. The monastery was reopened for religious practice on Aug. 15, 2010, with permission from the Culture and Tourism Ministry, following an 88-year hiatus. Five years later, it was closed over the risk of falling rocks and went into a long restoration process later.

Millions hit roads for spring holiday
The three-day Ramadan feast has been gingered up with spring fever and the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in Turkey, resulting in high numbers of bookings along the Mediterranean and Aegean resorts, according to tourism experts.
Muslims in Turkey, along with other Muslim populations around the world, are celebrating Eid al-Fitr on May 2, as the day marks the end of a 30-day fast during the holy month of Ramadan as well as the beginning of a three-day public holiday.
Many people have already extended the holiday to nine days by taking two days off on May 5 and 6, effectively bridging the Ramadan feast with two weekends.
“We are expecting the number of citizens joining the tourism movement during the Ramadan Feast to hit around 2 million. Thus, we forecast a [revenue] volume between 8 to 10 billion Turkish Liras [around $540 to $675 million],” said Firuz Bağlıkaya, the head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB).
“Among the destinations, demand is high for resorts such as Alanya, Belek, Bodrum, Çeşme, Kemer, Marmaris and Kuşadası,” he said, adding that hotels with live music venues will be particularly popular during this holiday period.
Holidaymakers have grabbed the opportunity to take a vacation, which is about 50 per cent cheaper compared to the high summer season, said Mete Vardar, the head of tour operator Jolly.
Demand for hotspots in the Black Sea and the Southeastern Anatolia regions are also high, he said. “The easing of pandemic-related restrictions has ramped up demand for cultural tours. People show interest in package tours. It is especially important for the regional economies.”
Bookings are almost 30 per cent up for this Ramadan Feast holiday versus those of 2019, before the pandemic tumbled the travel industry globally, Setur Domestic Operations Manager Serhat Günay said.
Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu told Anadolu Agency (AA) ahead of the holiday that they deployed some 5,400 personnel across the country to ensure safe travel of citizens.
