Two solo paragliders rescued in separate incidents
According to reports in Gerçek Fethiye, two solo paragliders had to be rescued in separate incidents in Fethiye’s Ölüdeniz on Friday.
The JAK team rescued a Russian tourist who fell into a rocky area whilst paragliding from Babadağ in Ölüdeniz.
Alexsander Trifonow (36) fell into a rocky area whilst making a solo jump from the Babadağ 1200 runway. Fethiye Ölüdeniz Gendarmerie Patrol Command Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) team were dispatched to the region, rescued the Russian tourist and transported him to Fethiye State Hospital by ambulance, where he was found to be in good health.
In a separate incident, Mariye Erol (21) lost control of the parachute whilst making a solo jump from the 700 meter track on Babadağ and fell onto the roof of an entertainment venue.
The incident was attended by the JAK team and 112 Emergency Service teams who transported Erol to the Fethiye State Hospital. Erol was reported to be in good health.

Underwater art exhibition opens in Bodrum
The seabed was turned into an exhibition hall in the Bodrum district of Muğla on Friday when a ceramic and sculpture exhibition was opened at a depth of 15 meters.
The sculptures and ceramics of 22 artists were displayed at the bottom of the sea, 15 meters off the coast of Karaada Kaçakçı Cove, located off the coast of Bodrum.
Bodrum Governor Bilgehan Bayar and Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras dived down to the exhibition for the opening ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Bodrum District Governor Bilgehan Bayar said in a speech, “Tourism is not just sea, sand and sun. There are areas that we call alternative tourism. One of them is diving tourism. and there is also an emphasis on art. The exhibition combines the two into an attraction that will be popular with divers.”

Turkey clinches 3rd spot in number of pristine Blue Flag beaches
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced on Friday that the number of Turkey’s beaches with Blue Flag status has reached 531. Blue Flags are the symbol of venues fulfilling clean beach and marina criteria put forth by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
Ersoy said in a written statement that Turkey retained its third spot in the world in the number of Blue Flag beaches after Spain and Greece, two other countries littoral to the Mediterranean Sea where the majority of such beaches are located.
This year’s new inclusions for Turkey’s pristine beaches are five public beaches in Antalya and another in Muğla, two popular vacation destinations visited by thousands of local and foreign tourists every year. Overall, Turkey accumulated 13 more Blue Flags this year. Blue-flagged sites this year also include 24 marinas, 15 tourism boats and five private yachts.
Along with the renewal of Blue Flag certificates, some beaches won the prestigious designation for the first time this year, like Inciraltı beach at Lake Iznik in the northwestern province of Bursa.
Antalya has the highest number of Blue Flag beaches at 229, while Muğla has 111. Mersin, another Mediterranean province, now has 11 such beaches, while Kırklareli and Sakarya in the northwest added one more to their existing Blue Flag beaches. Other beaches cover vast geography from Izmir in the west to Van in easternmost Turkey, as well as beaches on the shores of the Black Sea, in Ordu, Bartın and Samsun.

Istanbul hosts massive quake evacuation exercise
Thousands of aid workers and other personnel took part in one of the biggest earthquake preparedness exercises in Istanbul, a city that is expected to be hit by a major earthquake in the near future according to scientists.
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) launched the exercise at 18 different locations in the city, including Istanbul Airport, with the Kağıthane district on the city’s European side serving as the base of operations. AFAD crews responded to a scenario in which an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.5 or higher hit the metropolis for the “evacuation, accommodation and planning” exercise. The scenario focused on all 39 districts of the city and was the latest in a series of drills AFAD and other public agencies have conducted in the “Year of Exercises.”
Istanbul, with its population of more than 15 million people, is Turkey’s most populated city and is at constant risk of earthquakes. Multiple studies show the city will inevitably suffer from a powerful earthquake, and experts warn that it is not a question of “if” but “when.”
