Luxury superyacht “The Ragnar” arrives in Fethiye

The Maltese-flagged “The Ragnar”, a 68-meter-long super luxury yacht, arrived in Fethiye, Muğla on Sunday.

The superyacht, which docked in Fethiye Harbor, drew attention with its 14-metre wide hull design and structure. Owned by Russian oligarch Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, the yacht can host 12 guests in 6 luxurious cabins and has a helipad. The superyacht also has the ability to sail on icy seas.

Scenes of the last supermoon of 2022

The last supermoon of the year occurred on Thursday night and coincided with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower.

This supermoon, the last of the calendar year, has a special name, the Sturgeon Moon. The Sturgeon Moon is the third closest supermoon of the year and is one of a number of quirky names given to the calendar’s lunar phenomenon, alongside May’s Flower Moon, June’s Strawberry Moon and July’s Buck Moon.

The names for the moons come from Native American nomenclature and were first published in the Maine Farmer’s Almanac in the 1930s.

Explaining its etymology, Nasa says: “According to this almanac, as the full moon in Aug. the Algonquin tribes in what is now the northeastern United States called this the Sturgeon Moon after the large fish that were more easily caught this time of year in the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water.”

A supermoon is when the moon looks larger in the night sky due to it being closer to the earth. However, this month’s supermoon is still 2000 miles further away than the supermoon that appeared in July.

Ancient Kahta Castle opens its doors to visitors in Türkiye’s Adiyaman

The ancient Kahta Castle in Türkiye’s southeastern Adiyaman province dating back to the Commagene period has opened its doors to visitors after 17 years.

Bearing traces of three important civilisations on the route to Mount Nemrut, the castle was closed to visitors in 2005 for security reasons and re-opened on Tuesday.

The restoration work in the castle has been completed in three stages.

“Kahta Castle underwent a long period of restoration. As part of a project, Revitalisation of the Tourism Sector in Adiyaman, a glass terrace was built inside the castle, and security strips of the walkways were completed. It is now waiting for visitors,” said the governor of Adiyaman Mahmut Cuhadar.

“Kahta Castle is one of the best preserved historical castles in Türkiye. The castle is worth seeing. Our visitors will not regret it. We welcome domestic and foreign tourists here,” Cuhadar added.

Pink and white: Turkish lake attracts visitors and salt producers

Türkiye’s second biggest lake, Lake Tuz, is going through a “pink summer” in Aksaray while elsewhere, work is underway to extract salt from its deposits.

The lake at the heart of the country acquired its new colour due to an algae and bacteria boom amid rising temperatures. The body of the water, also known as the home of migratory birds and a primary sanctuary for pink flamingos in the spring and summer, draws more visitors nowadays.

Algae produce a red-orange pigment called beta-carotene when temperatures increase, along with the rate of salination, to protect themselves from harmful sunlight. This, in turn, changes the lake into a red or pink colour that lasts until the arrival of the rainy season when the lake restores its original colour.

Elsewhere, the lake’s waters recede as temperatures rise, marking the beginning of the “salt harvest.” For about three months every year, the country’s salt producers flock to the lake’s dry areas to extract salt from deposits. The lake is a major resource of salt for the country. The salt, with a purity rate of 99%, is also exported to more than 60 countries.
