Truck Collides with Minibus in Muğla: 22 Injured
22 people were injured in an accident when a pickup truck and a minibus collided in the Menteşe district of Muğla.
112 Emergency service were dispatched to the scene where 22 passengers were found to be injured.
Two of the injured had broken legs and a further 20 people were treated as outpatients.
According to preliminary findings, the pickup truck collided head-on with the minibus. A full investigation is being carried out by Gendarmerie traffic teams.

Retailers may face harsher punishments
Supermarket chains may face some harsher punishments and new regulations may be introduced in the industry as authorities are scrutinizing their prices and other practices.
After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan earlier this week said that fines do not appear to be enough, now all eyes are on possible measures to be taken in the retail industry.
“We have taken necessary steps following the inspections and will do so. Some other measures may be needed,” Erdoğan said.
Steps to be taken other than fines could be discussed at the next cabinet meeting, he added.
Last week, the Trade Ministry imposed fines on 21 supermarket chains and companies amounting to 9.4 million Turkish Liras over exorbitant prices they charge and engaging in stockpiling.
Sources told daily Milliyet that new steps may include setting up new criteria to launching new supermarkets, reducing the number of supermarket chains and even a penalty to close them.
The Trade Ministry is currently working on those possible measures, which could be discussed at next week’s cabinet meeting.
Senior officials from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) told the daily that to date 200,000 inspections were carried out on supermarkets and fines amounting to 2.8 billion Turkish Liras were imposed on six supermarket chains.
Officials, however, noted that despite those inspections, prices have remained elevated, that’s why alternative measures are being considered.

Turkish central bank cuts rates again despite high inflation
Türkiye’s central bank has delivered another large interest rate cut despite inflation running at more than 85%
Türkiye’s central bank delivered another outsized interest rate cut Thursday despite inflation running at more than 85% and other countries moving the opposite way to ease the pain of soaring prices.
The central bank said its Monetary Policy Committee decided to lower the benchmark policy rate by 1.5 percentage points to 9%, following a series of similar jumbo cuts.
The move is in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s unorthodox economic views that high borrowing costs cause high inflation, even though traditional economic thinking says raising interest rates help tame inflation.
Erdoğan had called for a single-digit interest rate by the end of the year. He is counting on lower borrowing costs to propel the economy as Türkiye gears up for presidential and parliamentary elections next June.
The bank had similarly cut borrowing costs by 1.5 points last month and by 1 point each in August and September. The Monetary Policy Committee announced, however, that the easing cycle would now come to a halt.
Inflation hit a raging 85.51% in October, according to official statistics, making even basic necessities unaffordable for many. Independent researchers estimated, however, that actual price increases are much higher than the official figures.

World Champion Kubilay Alcu brings the championship belt home to Fethiye
World Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion Kubilay Alcu returned to his hometown of Fethiye with the world championship belt on Friday.
Alcu, who competed in the World Championship Boxing Match held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, defeated his opponent with a technical knockout in the 7th round to win the title.
Alcu, who was driven into the city in convoy, was given an unforgettable welcome by the people of Fethiye.
Praising the boxer from Fethiye, Fethiye District Governor Alper Balcı said, “I would like to thank Kubilay Alcu, the pride of Fethiye. I would like to thank all my friends who sponsored him. He waved the Turkish flag in Europe. I am grateful to him.”

Fethiyespor signs agreement with new coach
Fethiyespor has signed an agreement with new Coach Erhan Altın and his team of assistants for 1.5 years. The agreement was officially signed at the press conference held in the Fethiyespor management building.
Born on August 28, 1956, Erhan Altın is 66 years old. He left his previous position at Van Spor Football Club on April 25, 2022. He worked as a coach in clubs such as Göztepe, Alanya and Kocaeli and accumulated 207 points in all matches throughout his coaching life, with an average score of 1.46 per match. His football field formation is generally 4-2-3-1.
