Fire Destroys Office
A two story building located in the Paspatur area was damaged by fire on Thursday.
The property which includes the Natural Homes estate agency on the ground floor once hosted the Home Bar on the first floor.
The fire was reported to have started on the first floor of the property.
Fire crews took an hour to extinguish the fire and were successful in preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Fethiye Times reader Stuart Aikman took the leading image at the scene.
Meanwhile reader Çağdaş Üstünkaya took this picture that shows that the smoke could be seen from a way down the promenade.
The owner of the property Kemal Yedekçioğlu told the local press that he had been carrying out renovations in the building when the fire began.
He told them that the damage will be repaired.
Suspected Counterfeit Operation Uncovered
Two men were arrested in Esenköy near Fethiye last week when a building used for suspected counterfeit operations including production of bootleg alcohol, coin manufacture and fake detergent was raided by security services.
They found a copper distillery, empty bottles and bottles of counterfeit Johnny Walker whisky and Raki – see image above.
They also found what they suspect to be equipment to make counterfeit coins.
And finally they found hundreds of kilos of detergent that had been put into counterfeit packaging.
All of the suspect products and equipment were seized and are being checked.
Rally Raid
4×4 adventurers and trail biker riders will be heading for the mountains behind Fethiye between the 17 to 20 November to take part in an event known as Bajaanatoli.
The event will test drivers and their vehicles on specially planned routes around the wilder mountain areas.
The event replaces the Transanatolia Rally Raid event that has taken place over the last 6 years because of the current security issues ear to the original route.
The organisers say they have designed this years event to be just as exciting and testing for the drivers and their machines.
The event and is open to all drivers with a suitable vehicle and equipment.
Blackout
Fethiye was without mains electricity for most of yesterday as key maintenance operations were carried out in the network.
Supermarkets, fuel stations and other key infrastructure switched to their emergency generators to keep the lights, pumps and freezers going.
Turkish Money
The British Pound bought 4.09 Turkish Lira by the close of trading on Friday.
At one point it bought 4.14 TL.
This is the first time since July this that the Pound has bought more than 4 TL.
A Turkish Lira was worth 24 pence.
Last week it bought 3.95 TL.
