White Christmas

Snow fell on the mountains above Fethiye again last week.
It was enough of a covering to force some schools in the higher villages above Seydikemer, Mugla to close early on Thursday.
Snow ploughs were out to keep the main road between Fethiye and Antalya clear of the deep snow.
The snow continued through to Saturday and caused difficult driving conditions.
Flights to Turkey Increase
Jet2com the airline that includes up to 22kgs of luggage in its flight prices announced its summer 2017 schedule last week and, unlike some companies, it is promoting Turkey as a great destination for 2017.
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has responded to phenomenal customer demand for flights and package holidays from its new base at London Stansted Airport, by adding four new routes, extra capacity and more aircraft – before flights even commence! Stanstead airport passengers will be able to travel to Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman and Split.
Jet2.com states on its website that it offers friendly low fares from nine UK airports – Belfast International, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle.
Safe Passage for School Kids
A new foot bridge was craned into place above the busy main road in Çatalarık last week
Fencing will also be installed on the central reservation to encourage people to use the safer foot bridge.
The bridge should open early in the new year.
The construction of the dual carriage way road, higher speeds and higher volumes of traffic have increases the risk to vulnerable pedestrians who try to cross the road.
There have been collisions with pedestrians some of which have been fatal at similar locations.
Shaken but Not Stirred

Fethiye was gently rocked by an 5.5 quake on Tuesday evening at 21:03.
The epicentre of the quake was out to sea.
No injuries or damage to property were reported.
People Smuggler Caught
The Fethiye Coastguard boarded a fuel tanker in Fethiye Bay last Tuesday.
On board they discovered two hidden migrants sequested under a fuel tank.
So they arrested the skipper, brought the migrants ashore and impounded the vessel.
Watery Crash
One man died and two others were injured on Saturday when a car they were travelling in crashed into the sea.
The three were rushed to hospital but one man later died.
The two survivors were 17 years old.
The incident happened on the coastal strip road in the Akarca neighbourhood of Fethiye.
The vehicle was later removed by a recovery specialist.
Turkish Money
It was a more settled week for the Turkish Lira last week.
The British Pound was worth 4.30 Turkish Lira (TL), just 8 kürüş less than the week before.

After a wonderful sunny Christmas Day what does the week ahead hold?
