Fethiye Times - LOVE-FETHIYE

Hidden away, just off the main road in Ovacık, is the Yakamoz Hotel and Restaurant. This charming, traditional hotel run by Mehmet Güven and his friendly team, provides an oasis of calm and relaxation, ideal for those who want to escape from the rat race and enjoy a tranquil, restful holiday.

The early years

Mehmet has been running the hotel since 1992 and has made many changes over the years.

Today’s Yakamoz

This year the Yakamoz Hotel celebrates it’s 25th birthday and the hotel you see today, although modernised and extended, still retains the charm you would have found all those years ago.

There are 29 rooms, all with their own en-suite bathroom, balcony and air conditioning included in the main hotel and annexe, plus 2 self-contained cottages, Olive Cottage and Limon Cottage.

The main hotel (above) was originally a pansiyon (pension) and is now the oldest remaining example in the area, retaining many original features.

The annexe and cottages are situated in the grounds of the hotel.

Limon and Olive cottages are ideal for families who want the privacy of their own accommodation along with the benefits of staying in a hotel.

Relax by the pool

The pool terrace with it’s stunning mountain backdrop, is a great place to spend the day relaxing.

The poolside bar and eating area means you don’t have to go far for drinks and snacks. Read a book, swim, listen to music, swim, have a nap, swim…what more could you ask for?

The garden

For those who prefer more natural surroundings,  the garden area with established trees and shrubs provides plenty of natural shade.

Of course a garden wouldn’t be a garden without flowers and plants which bloom everywhere.

For the walkers among you

Yakamoz Hotel is ideally placed for walking the Lycian Way and hosts walking holidays which are popular with guests as well as walking groups. Click here for more about walking and rambling at the Yakamoz.

The Winchester Ramblers had this to say about their walking holiday

“The hotel was everything we could wish for and more. Comfortable rooms, a beautiful garden and a very inviting pool. The food was fabulous and the staff so helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. A humorous rapport soon developed and it was like parting with friends when we left. On our last evening Mehmet arranged a wonderful Turkish farewell meal round the pool, including a belly dancer, who invited us to take part (Phil was the star of the show!). This was followed by dancing to Turkish music by the bar and for the few of us who had stamina left to stay up to the early hours Jamil treated us to his singing and playing of the Turkish lute – a magical experience.

Mehmet, who had greeted us with open arms when we arrived, seemed almost as enthusiastic to wave us off at the end of the trip, more than ready for a rest after been worn out by the ‘older generation’.

We’ve talked about the hotel itself and the facilities – but what about the food? Well you’re in for a treat.

Yakamoz Hotel Restaurant

Award-winning head chef, Kenan, and the restaurant team make eating at the Yakamoz a mouth-watering delight. Earlier this year Kenan won a gold medal at the International İstanbul Gastronomy Festival and then went on to win another gold medal at the Fethiye Tourism Food and Equipment Fair.

The restaurant consists of an indoor area, very traditional in appearance with a log fire for those chillier autumn evenings. For the hot summer evenings, there is a outside terrace shaded with vines.

The menu is essentially Turkish mixed with some international cuisine. Many of the dishes are unique to the Yakamoz and every year, Kenan creates new dishes to add to the menu. The restaurant also caters for vegetarians.
