Giant hailstones and torrential downpours leave the streets of Istanbul under water.
At least 10 people have been injured as heavy rain, hail and strong winds knocked down trees, damaged buildings and flooded streets in Istanbul on Thursday.
The violent storm pummelled Turkey’s most populated city with hailstones the size of golf balls.
Heavy rainfall disrupted evening rush hour traffic, with some motorists leaving their vehicles stranded.
An explosion and a fire occurred at a port after high winds toppled a large crane that landed on oil barrels, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported. At least one person was injured in the fire, which was later brought under control. A small depot also caught fire after being hit by lightning.
Wind gusts of up to 98 kilometres per hour were recorded during the peak of the storm.
Istanbul recorded 22mm of rain in just 12 hours, which is more than half the July average of 34mm.
Officials said more than 7,000 emergency workers were called in to help after the storm uprooted 230 trees, destroyed 90 roofs and sparked fires across the city.
Britain Lifts Laptop Ban on Some Flights From Turkey
The Department for Transport said on Friday that the rule no longer applied on all flights to the U.K. from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen airport, and on some flights from Izmir and Istanbul’s Atatürk airport.
The changes apply to U.K. bound flights operated by Turkish Airlines and the budget airline Pegasus.
The department says restrictions at other airports “will be lifted on a case-by-case basis once the U.K. government has verified that airlines have put in place alternative security measures.”
Britain’s ban came after the U.S. barred laptops in cabins on flights from 10 Mideast airports over concerns about explosives on planes. The ban has since been lifted for several airlines.
Rescue teams search for a British holidaymaker who turns up at hotel
Teams from National Medical Rescue UMKE and Search and Rescue Association AKUT were called out on Friday when a British tourist failed to return from a hike in Kayaköy.
Christopher James (32) and his girlfriend, Joanne McKew had driven to Kayaköy from where Christopher went hiking in the woodland area. When he failed to return, Joanne called the 112 Emergency Help Centre.
Jandarma, UMKE and AKUT teams searched the woodlands and steep terrain for more than two hours but there was no sign of Christopher. As the search continued it was discovered that Christopher, who had fallen in the woods, hit the rocks and fainted, had recovered and walked back to his hotel.
UMKE officer, Hüseyin Pınar, reported that Christopher had not suffered any serious injury.

The season is scheduled to start on 11 August 2017 (TFF 2 first match is 27 August). The first half of the league will conclude on 24 December 2017 and second half will begin on 19 January 2017 and end on 20 May 2018.
