Around 250 people turned out on Sunday to take part in the Yaşam İçin Yarış (Race For Life) in Fethiye.
The race is now in its third year and once again it was well supported by local people from Fethiye and Dalyan, and holidaymakers too – one from as far away as Montreal in Canada.

The categories were the same as the previous years; men, women, children and wheelchairs with one addition, a trial of a 21km half marathon.
A competitive addition to Yaşam İçin Yarış.
There are many serious runners who would like a more competitive race to be included as part of Yaşam İçin Yarış. This year a decision was made to run a trail of a 21km half marathon with a small number of competitive runners with a view to including it in future events.
12 runners took part in the race which started from the Culture Centre at 9am and followed a route to Kocaçalış and back.
Once the half marathon had started, Karen Stockman led the 5km runners/walkers in an aerobic warm up.
The entrants then formed a massive circle on Beşkaya Meydanı (Town Square), joined hands and shared in a minutes silence to think about loved ones and friends; those who are fighting cancer; those who have fought cancer in the past and the ones who lost their courageous fight.
Everyone had someone they were running for.
Amongst the entrants was ten-year-old Ela from Üzümlü who has just been told she is in remission after undergoing 14 sessions of chemotherapy. That didn’t stop this brave little girl and she completed as much of the 5km as she could.
Maz Gollancz and Sue Wiggins were there to run for Brian, the husband of a friend, who died of pancreatic cancer earlier this year. They had already raised 1500TL at a coffee morning held at Olive Grove Village where they live and a collection at Glamour later the same evening.

Five, four, three, two, one…
