The controversial statues of the Fethiye ballerinas have found a new home thanks to Fethiye Mayor Behçet Saatçi.
The statues of the two ballerinas reaching for the sky were installed in the Ugur Mumcu Park near the main war memorial earlier this week.
The ballerinas had created controversy when they were installed and then removed from the new Özgecan Monument before it was opened on 8 March 2016.
People had commented on social media that the ballerinas were removed because they were inappropriate and one social media group even claimed that it was their campaign that led to their removal.
The Mayor of Fethiye had put the record straight at the time explaining that when the figures were initially placed at the Özgecan monument they overshadowed the centre monument.
He said the ballerinas were too big and therefore they were removed. Nothing to do with social media comments.
The ballerinas are now proudly on display in their new location near to the war memorial and town square in the Ugur Mumcu Park.
