Taking part in a beach clean-up has a number of benefits, both for the environment and on a personal level.
Marine life protection
Marine animals will often mistake small pieces of plastic for food, and over time consuming it becomes too much for their bodies. Many of them will eventually succumb to the plastic waste. Study after study has shown that a large number of marine animal deaths are now a direct result of marine debris. All it takes is one tiny bottle cap, cigarette butt, or something as simple as a straw and animals can suffer an unimaginable fate.

Good practice for responsible and sustainable tourism.
Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world. The beauty of the coastal areas and beaches are a primary attraction and perception of cleanliness affects the probability of people returning to the area in the future.
Supporting the community
They are a great way of spending a few hours with friends and meeting new people in the community. They bring about a change in the mindset of those who take part. After picking up and filling trash bags with plastic from the beach, it becomes harder to continue to use them, especially things like plastic water bottles.
Bearing all this in mind, the Türkiye’yi Temiz Tut (Keep Turkey Clean) project arranged a beach clean to take place in Çalış on Tuesday.
Çalış beach clean
The section of Çalış beach near Şat was chosen for the clean up as it is a popular area for picnics and fishermen and is strewn with rubbish. All you need is a windy day or a storm with a high tide and this rubbish ends up in the sea.
A picture speaks a thousand words
Have a look at our gallery of photographs from the cleanup. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words.
