Fethiye’s Department of Environmental Protection has been busy working on an environmental project to set up a centre to provide second-hand clothing and textiles to needy citizens, free of charge.
On Thursday 15th March, Dükkan Senin opened it’s doors to the public.
Fethiye Mayor, Behçet Saatçı, made an opening speech before the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the centre to the public. He thanked the municipality staff members who were involved in the campaign, KAYDEM plastic, TrendDK textiles, and the citizens who supported and attended the opening.

Where do the clothes come from?
Dükkan Senin has a selection of clothes and textiles that have been either donated via the textile (purple) recycling bins that can be found around Fethiye, or taken directly to Dükkan Senin.
Who can shop there?
The shop isn’t open to anyone. Its aim is to help the poor and needy people of Fethiye. To make sure this happens, anyone who wants to take advantage of this service must register first. The Zabita will then carry out financial checks to ensure the person is entitled to free items. If accepted, they are allocated a maximum of five items every three months. This process will be carefully monitored to make sure Dükkan Senin works in the way it is intended.
Will the charity shops be affected?
The charity shops may see a slight reduction in donations, however, it is down to individuals as to where they send their unwanted items.
The charity shops work on a different model in that there is a nominal charge for items and monies raised are used to help local children or animals.
They do, however, already send some items to help the poor and needy people and Fethiye International Group (FIG) has requested their own textile recycling bin for the shop.
Sheila Tongue, Chairman of Fethiye International Group (FIG), who attended the opening said “This project is a very good idea and provides a system that will benefit those people who cannot afford shop prices. FIG looks forward to working with Dükkan Senin”

Who do I want to benefit from my donation?
If you want your donations to raise money specifically to help local children or animals, send them to a charity shop.
Would the items I’m donating be appropriate for Dükkan Senin?
If you want your unwanted items of clothing to go directly to the poor and needy, donate them to Dükkan Senin.
Please remember the Turkish people are very modest in the way they dress, therefore, sending (for example) your unwanted summer dresses (however lovely they may be) would be pointless. Send them to the charity shop of your choice.
Dükkan Senin is located at Adnan Menderes Bulvarı. No:306 (Old Genpa) and is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 – 17:00.
