Royal wedding celebrations in Fethiye
Everyone loves a wedding and thousands gathered in London to watch the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Around the world an estimated two billion people in every time zone tuned in to watch and events were held around the world to celebrate the occasion.
One such event was held at the Yakamoz Hotel in Ovacık where guests gathered to enjoy afternoon tea with finger foods and a range of extravagant desserts whilst watching the wedding live on TV. Everyone wished the happy couple all the best for the future.
New disabled beach at Çalış
Unlike public buildings and parks, beaches aren’t designed with accessibility in mind.
Sometimes it’s very difficult, if not impossible, for wheelchair users to enjoy a swim in the sea so it’s good news for wheelchair users this year as Çalış Beach now has an accessibility ramp extending into the sea.
It’s Ramazan
Fethiye Mayor, Behçet Saatcı, enjoyed the first Iftar meal of Ramazan with locals in the garden of the Imam Hatip school in Fethiye.
The holy month of Ramazan started on the evening of the 15th May and ends on the evening of Thursday 14th June.

Thomas Cook announce new destination for flights from Norwich airport
Thomas Cook Airlines has unveiled a new route to Dalaman in Turkey with the first departure from Norfolk on Wednesday.
The weekly flights will carry 180 passengers and the announcement comes after an 84% year-on-year rise in bookings for holidays in Turkey, according to Thomas Cook.
Richard Pace, managing director at Norwich Airport, said: “Dalaman is in the heart of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast and is making a welcome return to our schedules in 2018. This new weekly flight gives the region’s holidaymakers even more choice from their local airport and we look forward to it starting next week.”
Henry Sunley, commercial director at Thomas Cook Airlines, said: “Turkey is a really popular destination for our customers and we are very pleased to add Norwich airport to our growing number of UK airports.”

Nine people killed by lightning strikes in just one month across Turkey
A total of nine people have been killed due to lightning strikes over the past month across Turkey, with experts warning that the rising number of such incidents could be related to a boom in magnetic fields across the world, daily Habertürk reported on May 17.
Some 26 people were injured and more than 120 animals were also killed by lightning strikes in Turkey, according to recent reports from European Lightning Strikes Monitoring System.
Around 200,000 lighting strike incidents occurred across Europe countries over the past month, with the Turkish authorities confirming those figures and adding that the number of lighting strike incidents have also increased in the country.
Experts said the number of lighting strike incidents increased massively between May 5 and 13.
“Electromagnetic fields and electromagnetic pollution in the natural environment have increased dramatically. Cell phones also work with the electromagnetic system. Many scientists in Europe have sought to stop the work of 5G through applications at the U.N. and the European Parliament. When 5G arrives, new base stations will be installed and electromagnetic fields will increase,” Boğaziçi University academic Selim Şeker said.
“The natural equilibrium and the human structure will deteriorate. A human is a magnetic charge. Mobile phones and other resources further increase the magnetic charges on humans. The increase in an electromagnetic field causes unwanted events. So things like this are going to happen more often,” Şeker added.
One lightning strike can carry up to a billion volts of electricity, more than enough to stop a human’s heart and burn their visceral organs.

Snake Castle restored to welcome visitors
The 12th-century Yılankale (Snake Castle) in southeastern Turkey’s Adana is known to the locals as the house of Shahmaran, a mythical creature that is half snake, half woman.
After lying in a state of ruin for years, Adana Directorate of Culture and Tourism began restoring the castle in 2014. Now it will soon be opened for visitors.
Yılankale, with its mythology, rises on a steep hill to provide a clear view of the surrounding area. It incorporates three interwoven bastions because of its strategical location.
There are some legends on how Yılankale got its name. Some say that a snake charmer used to live in the castle, while others suggest that the castle’s snaky, twisted walls earned it the name Yılankale or Snake Castle.
The most common belief, however, is that the castle was home to Shahmaran, who gave an immortality potion to Luqman al-Hakeem.
Castle revived
Adana Director of Culture and Tourism Sabri Tari told Anadolu Agency (AA) that Yılankale was a defense and observation castle. It was built in the middle ages to control both Çukurova and the Silk Road.
He also noted its mythological value and said that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism placed much importance on the castle because of this reason. Tari said that the three bastions of the castle have been restored. “The ministry has spent more than TL 1.71 million ($384,621) to restore the castle. This year we initiated the bidding process for the landscaping. We will open the castle for visitors soon. They will be able to enjoy the castle’s history, architecture and the myth.”
