Country & Western night raises money for local children’s charity
A Country & Western night held in Üzümlü on Tuesday evening raised 2780 TL for Embrace Children’s Charity.
Some 80 guests attended the event which was held at Park Alya Restaurant and included local talent singing C&W songs, a Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute act, line dancing and a disco to round off the evening. The evening was compered by a very able Hussein Ramadan who was also auctioneer.

Park Alya Restaurant provided an excellent BBQ and Meze selection for the hungry.
Together with personal donations of 500tl and 200tl respectively a total of 2780tl was raised on the evening from an auction and raffle.
Organiser, Denise Atkins was delighted with the amount of support from the local community. Denise, although heavily committed to Hayed Üzümlü, last year made a promise to Embrace that she would organise an event. She has kept that promise and organised a very successful evening.
Many hours of practicing certainly paid off for the Line Dancers under the choreography of Celia Chuter. Celia also lead a learners session for the less able.

The Hayed Üzümlü Choir sang several C&W songs including Blanket on the Ground & Jolene. Soloist Ann Marie sang Stand by your Man and Crazy. Duo, Dawn Akurek and Gary Atkins, performed Tequila Sunrise and Achy Breaky Heart. A mention for Baz Drake and Stewart Scot who also entertained.
Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers aka Denise Atkins and Steve Hart performed Islands in The Stream to the delight of the audience.
The guests then enjoyed a very successful disco to finish off the evening.
The money raised for Embrace will go to help a family whose eight-year-old daughter has undergone emergency brain surgery and is still undergoing treatment.
Rose Phillips accepted a cheque for 2780tl on behalf of Mavis Simpson, founder of Embrace.
