Azerbaijani woman falls to her death in Kabak Bay
An Azerbaijani woman fell to her death in Kabak Bay in Fethiye on Friday.
According to reports, 27-year-old Maryam Omarova was taking a walk from Kabak Bay in Faralya towards Aladere Waterfall in order to camp with friends. Omarova fell from a height of about 15 meters while climbing to the waterfall
A doctor, who was camping in Kabak Bay, reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center when he saw Omarova immobile in the water whilst out walking. The scene was attended by the Ölüdeniz Gendarmerie Command and 112 Emergency Service crews. Health teams who reached the scene declared Omarova dead at the scene.
Omarova’s body was transported to the road in a two-hour retrieval operation from where it was taken to the morgue at the Fethiye State Hospital for autopsy.
Faralya District Mayor, Hasan Karabulut stated that they are sorry for the loss of Azerbaijani tourists’ life in the accident at the Aladere Waterfall in the bay.
Karabulut said that the area where the waterfall is located is within 1.5 hour walk of Koya, “It is a hard area to reach and we advise tourists not to climb such dangerous spots”.

Holidaymakers flock to Saklıkent Gorge to escape the heat
Holidaymakers in and around Fethiye flocked to Saklıkent Gorge in the Seydikemer district to escape the high temperatures that have hit the area this week.
The Eşen river flows through the gorge and the cool, 5 degree, water was a welcome respite from temperatures of 38 degrees and higher.
Saklıkent Canyon Operations Manager, Ibrahim Karaömeroğlu, told journalists that approximately 4,000 people per day were visiting the gorge due to the extreme heat.
Back in Fethiye, where temperatures reached 45 degrees, holidaymakers flocked to Belceğiz Beach (Ölüdeniz) and Çalış Beach to cool off. With water temperatures of 27 degrees, the water wassn’t quite a cooling as most would have liked.
Turkey adds 15.5 pct tax to alcoholic beverages
An additional 15.5 percent special consumption tax has been added for alcoholic beverages early in July, automatically in line with Turkey’s producer price index in the first half of the year.
Turkey makes tax hikes in alcohol products twice a year according to their share in the domestic producer price index.
The special consumption tax over such products has automatically gone into effect.
As a result, an average increase of 10 Turkish Lira is expected for a 70 cc bottle of the anise-flavored alcoholic drink rakı, rising from 102.1 lira ($21.7) to 112.7 lira ($23.9).
Some 84.3 lira of the expected price tag is charged by the state in the form of various taxes, included value-added tax (VAT) and special consumption tax. One 70 cc rakı now costs more than 7 percent of the minimum monthly wage in Turkey.
Meanwhile, in addition to the semi-yearly automatic tax hikes on alcoholic beverages, in accordance with Turkey’s accession negotiations with the European Union, special consumption taxes for alcoholic beverages were equaled late in May.
While the taxes imposed on rakı, vodka, and gin were increased, taxes for whiskey, liquor and wine were decreased.

World Cup: England reach first semifinal since 1990
England have advanced to their first semifinal appearance since 1990 after beating Sweden 2-0 on Saturday at Samara Arena.
Three Lions broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, when defender Harry Maguire headed in a corner.
England, throughout the first half, played dominant against their opponents and had chances to increase the lead.
In the 59th minute, Dele Alli’s close range header gave England a comfortable 2-0 lead, which they protected in the remaining minutes to advance to semifinals.
England’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made two crucial saves and was selected man of the match.
