A ceremony was held at 19:23 last night to mark the official opening of the Şehit Fethiye Bey Parkı opposite the Devlet (State) Hospital in Fethiye.
In June 2017, Fethiye Times published an article about the proposed recreation area that was planned for the waste land opposite the hospital.

Waterways, walkways, wildlife and play areas – a new recreational area for Fethiye
The 68,000 m2 development has taken just over a year to complete and we went along to enjoy the ceremony and see if the park would live up to expectations.
It did…

Hoş Geldiniz

First impressions are of green and space; a well thought out layout with plenty of areas to relax.
Sit, relax and enjoy
There are different styles of seating all around the park including sun loungers with views across the bay, picnic benches, gazebos and hammocks. There’s even a library where you can enjoy the books provided.

Walkways, waterways and windmills
Walkways and waterways meander through the park, adorned with statues, windmills, water wheels and much more…

Something for the children
A park isn’t a park without play areas for the children and the designers have excelled themselves with an amazing area that has child safe flooring and something for all ages.
There’s even something for the grown up children…
Getting around
It’s a massive area and there are signs to help you find your way around if you’re looking for something in particular, as well as a water fountain if you’re thirsty and plenty of bins to help keep the area clean.
Car parking
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether there would be parking facilities to which, the answer is yes. There is car parking although it isn’t clear at the moment if it will be extended further.
Şehit Fethi Bey Parkı is officially open
As the sun started to go down and 19:23 approached hundreds of people gathered for the official opening ceremony, which was attended by Fethiye Governor, Muzzafer Şahiner, Fethiye Mayor, Behçet Saatçı and other dignitaries. Speeches, music and folk dancing marked the occasion.
Why 19:23?
The history of modern Turkey begins with the foundation of the republic on October 29, 1923, with Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) as its first president.
We left the park as the sun went down, leaving further exploring for another day.
We’ll definitely be back…
