World-class sailing and water sports combined with easy access to mountain activities and historical sites are helping to transform the Turkish town of Kaş from a small beach resort into one of Turkey’s most desirable all-round destinations for both tourists and second homeowners, said Spot Blue International Property in October 2018.
Seven years after the opening of Kaş’s new marina, the third largest in southern Turkey, the former fishing village continues to develop as an international hub for sea tourism. Further westwards, beyond Kalkan, is the equally stunning Patara beach, which is part of a national park and just 15 minutes’ walk from Roman and Lycian ruins. Also nearby are the ruins of Xanthos-Letoon, which has World Heritage Site status.
“Kaş town is also a delight and even has its own intact amphitheatre,” continued Mr Walker. “Other highlights include the Bougainvillea lined streets, the lively main square, the colourful Friday market and the fishing harbour. For a change of scenery, you can even take a ferry across to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, so close it feels you could almost touch it from Kaş. More adventurous visitors can paraglide over the town or head off for a hike in the mountains behind. Despite all it has to offer, Kaş has not suffered from overdevelopment, thanks largely to its geographical location, sandwiched between the sea and mountains, and its undulating surrounding terrain. This adds to the attraction of property ownership there.”
