World-class sailing and water sports combined with easy access to mountain activities and historical sites are helping to transform the Turkish town of Kaş from a small beach resort into one of Turkey’s most desirable all-round destinations for both tourists and second homeowners, said Spot Blue International Property in October 2018.
Seven years after the opening of Kaş’s new marina, the third largest in southern Turkey, the former fishing village continues to develop as an international hub for sea tourism. The resort’s location within a large, protected bay with crystal clear water means conditions for SCUBA diving, freediving and snorkelling are some of the best anywhere in the Mediterranean. Out of a total of 254 diving centres in Turkey, 83 are located on its Mediterranean coast.
“It’s no coincidence the 2018 Freediving World Championships have just this month taken place in Kaş,” said Julian Walker, director at Spot Blue International Property. “The resort has become a global hub for freediving, thanks largely to it underwater activities centre, which was established by the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) and Turkish Underwater Sports Federation (TSSF) and is considered as one of the best in the world. All of these attractions add to its appeal as a holiday and second home destination.”
Meanwhile, beach options in and around Kaş are unrivalled. Complementing the two local pebble ones are a selection of unspoilt picture-postcard beaches at Limanağazı, special in that they can only be reached by one of the shuttle boats. A short bus ride along the coastal road, sandwiched between the Mediterranean and lush mountains, is one of Turkey’s most photographed beaches at Kaputaş, set at the end of gorge. Further westwards, beyond Kalkan, is the equally stunning Patara beach, which is part of a national park and just 15 minutes’ walk from Roman and Lycian ruins. Also nearby are the ruins of Xanthos-Letoon, which has World Heritage Site status.

“Kaş town is also a delight and even has its own intact amphitheatre,” continued Mr Walker. “Other highlights include the Bougainvillea lined streets, the lively main square, the colourful Friday market and the fishing harbour. For a change of scenery, you can even take a ferry across to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, so close it feels you could almost touch it from Kaş. More adventurous visitors can paraglide over the town or head off for a hike in the mountains behind. Despite all it has to offer, Kaş has not suffered from overdevelopment, thanks largely to its geographical location, sandwiched between the sea and mountains, and its undulating surrounding terrain. This adds to the attraction of property ownership there.”

One noteworthy property for sale in Kaş, available through Spot Blue International Property, is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom detached villa built to a high standard in a contemporary style and with all mod cons. On a private and elevated 700-square-metre plot with its own large pool, the airy property is still within easy walking distance of the resort centre and all amenities.
