Making Turkish History
On Monday March 7th 2019 at 09.10 am another page was written into Turkish history.
The first ever off-school teaching on animal care and welfare, was delivered to the first 60 Turkish children at the new Hayed (Hayvan Destek ve Eğitim Derneği) Education Centre in Çalış, Fethiye.
During the first day, a total of 150 children received education from voluntary animal welfare workers, veterinary services and local woodland authorities. Local dignitaries (District Governor, District Manager of the Ministry of Education) were present at the first lesson and very enthusiastic and supportive about the venture, which will deliver the ground breaking initiative to the entire school population in Fethiye. Initially, a total of 20,000 children are planned to attend.
Education is the future.
Educating the next generation of Turkish people on animal welfare and care gives the opportunity to dispel myths, rumour and beliefs that have been passed down historically for many generations and will undoubtedly have a massive impact, in the future, towards the welfare of Turkey’s animal population.
Education will continue at the centre until June 2019, and restart in September 2019. From March 2019 until June 2019, a total of 5000 children are already planned to attend. Hayed’s ‘Kids Club’ is now set up and is also part of the education strategy by having Hayed represented in all the Fethiye schools. It is planned that a Kids Club representative will eventually be included in the Hayed management team.
Hayed history and setup.
Hayed initially came into being as the result of the amalgamation of Animal Aid (Fethiye), Animal Care Uzumlu (ACU) and FHD (Fethiye Hayvan Dostları) in 2018. ACU is now a legal registered charity in its own right operating in ÜzÜmlÜ.
Hayed is Turkish led with expat support on the board of directors and in the management team. Volunteers are multi national and all work together for the benefit of the local animals in the Fethiye area. This works exceptionally well as the involvement of Turkish people has been instrumental in providing the foresight and vision to enable Hayed to develop what was once solely the care and feeding of local animals, with the addition of a purpose built base and education building in Çalış. Costs of this have been minimal as the land, buildings, shrubs etc around the borders, have been provided free of any charges by Fethiye Belediye.
Donations
The office has received many donations of chairs, desks, freezers to store fresh food for the animals, (donated by Fethiye businesses). Other necessary items ave been donated by individuals, too many to name but our thanks go to you all. However, to enable Hayed to continue this work, the education centre is in need of funding for equipment as some is on loan from Hayed supporters and will soon need to be returned.
Hayed first year
Hayed celebrates its first year of operation on March 19th 2019 and has not only continued with the local feeding and care of local animals, but has added further facets to its operations. A massive achievement in the first year of operation.

Charity News & Events – week ending 02 March 2019 – all about HAYED
Volunteers
Hayed is run purely by it’s team of multi-national volunteers, without whom they could not survive. They are fundraisers, foster-carers, animal feeders, emergency responders, shop assistants and much more.
Volunteers, feeders, foster carers, puppy and kitten carers are always welcomed into the Hayed family. If you can spare a few hours or would like to foster or care for needy puppies, kittens, or animals in need (Hayed once had a goat, and a donkey and a bird) then please contact them directly at the education centre or join the International Friends of Hayed Facebook page.
You will be most welcome.
Donations
Hayed operate purely on donations and fundraising events. The ongoing costs of food and veterinary care and now, education of Fethiye children, often leave Hayed working with a balance sheet in the red.
Donations can be made via the official Paypal account (preferred) or directly at one of our veterinary partners.
