There was great news for the people of Fethiye when Environment and Urban Planning Minister, Murat Kurum, visited Fethiye on Wednesday.

The Minister visited Fethiye for the opening of the Presidency of the Central Election Coordination Center in Fethiye, Muğla.

During his speech the Kurum said:

“Unfortunately, Fethiye Bay is in a very bad condition, and we have made our findings here. We will launch a 250 million pound project to clean the Gulf of Fethiye.”

Kurum likened it to the Golden Horn, a major urban waterway and the primary inlet of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. He said “The Golden Horn was in a worse condition that the Gulf of Fethiye. The government has cleaned the the Golden Horn and today it has become a place where fish can see and breathe. We will do the same in Fethiye”

On the morning of April 1, both Fethiye and Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization will start the cleaning of Fethiye. ”

519km bike route between İzmir and Antalya

Kurum also talked about the 519 km cycle route project from İzmir to Antalya. He said:

“We also continue our work for the 519-kilometer-cycle route project from Izmir to Antalya. There will be bicycle paths between Bodrum, Datça Peninsula, Koyceğiz, Dalyan, Fethiye and Kaş. Cyclists will be able to use the cycle path for a healthy lifestyle and to protect nature and the environment. 68 km of cycle path in Fethiye are within the scope of the project.”

The service will run from June 2nd, connecting the Turkish and Greek mainland for the first time.

Çeşme-Lavrion was chosen as it is the closest distance between the Turkish and Greek mainland with the trip taking some seven hours.

Bülent Ipek, board chairman of the Istanbul-based company, said “The line will not only boost the region’s economy but it will also provide significant convenience for expatriates as well as tourists.”

Fethiye Times News – Week Ending 16 March 2019

The number of compensation claims for holiday sickness and car accident whiplash has fallen dramatically after the introduction of legal curbs.

Personal injury claims brought before civil courts fell 19 per cent from 35,000 at the beginning of last year to 28,400 in December, according to figures from the Ministry of Justice.

It follows laws introduced last summer to stop profiteering by claims companies and lawyers, including limits on the amount they can demand in legal costs over holiday illness claims.

And last spring, claims companies were banned from making cold calls to people who had been involved in car crashes.

Sickness claims by holidaymakers rose from 5,000 in 2013 to more than 35,000 by 2016.

A number of bogus claims have been exposed, including that of Martin and Lindsey Brown, of Chorley, Lancashire, who tried to claim £20,000 after saying their holiday in Turkey was ruined by illness.

The couple were found guilty of fraud after, instead of being bedridden, Mr Brown had been going to the pool and drinking until ‘daft o’clock’.
