TURMEPA’s environmental training continues in Fethiye
Students from Ege University Empowerment Schools Fethiye EgeBil Elementary School attended educational activities arranged by TURMEPA on Friday.
The first activity of the day was a session at the TURMEPA office in Fethiye and taught the children about the importance of keeping the seas clean and the effect of pollution on marine life.
The children also had an opportunity to see some of the things found in the sea that are on display in the TURMEPA office.
Afterwards, students took part in a beach clean up near the Bird Sanctuary in Çalış where they collected 133 kg of waste. They had the chance to see for themselves the type of rubbish that washes up from the sea and is discarded by people.
The rubbish collected was sent to Fethiye Municipality recycling facility.
These events will be run by TURMEPA in schools in Muğla as part of the academic year.

New 23 million TL wastewater treatment plant put into operation
The new wastewater treatment plant in Ölüdeniz was finally put into operation on Thursday.
The 23 million TL facility which has a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters, will completely eliminate the problem purification in the region.
Further plans for investment in the Fethiye area include a sewage line in Hisarönü-Ovacık and the construction of a treatment plant with a capacity of 25 thousand cubic meters.

Restoration of Fethiye’s amphitheater to be completed by 2020
There was more good news for Fethiye this week during a visit from Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who came to Fethiye to meet with tourism companies.
The Minister announced that the restoration of the ancient Telmessos amphitheatre in Fethiye would be completed by 2020.
Ersoy told reporters “We are implementing different activities in the tourism regions in order to encourage tourists to visit places of cultural interest. Restoring the ancient theatre in Fethiye is very important to tourism. But more importantly, the theatre is located in the very center of Fethiye and the only one by the sea. Once the restoration is completed, the 500-seat theatre will be used as a centre for culture and performing arts. We need to integrate tourism with culture and art.”

The UK ‘sprung forward’ into British Summer Time at 1am yesterday and put the clocks forward one hour.
Although Turkey doesn’t ‘spring forward’ and ‘fall back’ anymore, there is good news …the time in Turkey is now only two hours ahead of the UK.
You’d be surprised at what a different an hour makes!
Conference in Turkish Cyprus to seek new paths to solve the dispute
A conference next week in Turkish Cyprus will explore new models for solving the longstanding dispute over the divided island.
Alternative models for a solution on Cyprus will be discussed at Eastern Mediterranean University on April 1-3 in a conference titled “The Cyprus Issue: The Past, Present, and Future of Cyprus” in Lefkoşa, the capital of Turkish Cyprus.
More than 50 academics and experts from various countries and research fields will discuss how the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in the eastern Mediterranean could affect the Cyprus issue.
Also set to be discussed are the process of negotiation, political and social problems in the TRNC, and the representation of Turkish Cypriots in the international arena.
The conference will discuss the changing situation of Cyprus and evaluate new ideas for a solution, Hüseyin Gökçekuş, dean of the Civil Engineering Faculty at the TRNC’s Near East University, told Anadolu Agency. More..

Ankara’s new theme park sees nearly one million visitors in less than a week
Ankara’s new theme park, Wonderland Eurasia, formerly known as Ankapark, has seen around 980,000 visitors since its inauguration on Wednesday.
The park is the largest theme park in Turkey and according to its founders, the biggest of its kind in Europe. Built on 1.3 million square meters, the park boasts 26 large rides and 2,117 smaller rides housed in 13 huge tents and a large outdoor area. It also houses a fountain that can sprinkle water 120 meters high, a parking lot for thousands of vehicles, a 5-kilometer long rail network and solar panels generating power for some sections of the park located in the capital’s Yenimahalle district.
Along with rides, the park boasts more than 2 million species of plants and trees dotting the venue. The main attractions are 14 roller coasters, which park owners say have the sharpest twists in the world, a 75-meter high tower ride, the domestically-made Digital Dark Ride, a huge multidimensional theater, hologram shows and interactive animations.
A canal inside the venue gives visitors a chance to see models of landmarks from around Turkey via boat trips. Another section entitled “Dinosaur Jungle” covers some 20,000 square meters and hosts a 70-meter-long animatronic dinosaur which the park hopes to submit to the Guinness Book of Records as the largest of its kind.
