Earlier this year we brought you an article about Dave Cassidy and five friends planning to drive three Mini Cooper S cars to Turkey and back to raise money for two charities, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Yaşam İçin Yarış (Race For Life Turkey).
On Wednesday 1 May, Dave and his team set off from Cannock. You can read the article by hospitalcharity.org by clicking on the link below
3 Minis set off on their journey to Turkey
We’ve just received a message from Dave to say they are currently in Munich and today they will be driving through Austria and Slovenia to Brod in Croatia. What an adventure and for such fantastic causes.

When will the Minis reach Turkey?
The Minis will reach Çanakkale on the Gallipoli peninsula in Northern Turkey on Saturday evening (Day 4). They will stay overnight in Çanakkale and drive to Hisarönü on Sunday (Day 5).
They plan to arrive at Abrahkebabrah in Hisarönü at 18:00 where there will be a rousing welcome. Please come along and cheer the boys home.
Raising money to help people with cancer
As I’ve already said, this is a great adventure and for such fantastic causes, I think we can all agree on that.
But lets not lose sight of why Dave and the team are doing this. They want to raise money to help people with cancer. It’s as simple as that…
Dave’s father-in-law, Peter Garnett, has recently received six months worth of chemotherapy at QEHB, and to thank the hospital and the staff for their care of him, they are driving 5,000 miles to raise money for cancer patients at the hospital.
Raising money for Fethiye
Dave and his wife, Julie, own a villa in Ovacık and spend their holidays here. When you spend time here on a regular basis you become part of the community. On learning about Yaşam İçin Yarış (Race For Life Turkey), Dave also wanted to do something to help and is also raising money for the charity.

Every penny (or kuruş) of money raised for Fethiye will be used to help people receive treatment for cancer. The health system works very differently here in Turkey and, although Turkish people receive the majority of cancer treatment free of charge, there are some people who cannot afford to travel to either Antalya, Izmir or Denizli for that life saving treatment. The money will be used to help as many of these people as possible.
