On 1st May 2019, Dave Cassidy, Anthony Baker, Gareth Rose, Daren Lee, Hugh Lloyd, Lee Edwards and three Mini Cooper S cars left Cannock in Staffordshire to drive to Hisarönü in Fethiye, Turkey (and back) to raise money for two charities.
In the UK they are raising money for the Queen Elizabeth hospital after Dave’s father-in-law, Peter Garnett recently underwent six months worth of chemotherapy on Ward 621.

In Turkey, they are raising money for Yaşam İçin Yarış (Race For Life Turkey) where the money raised will be used to help cancer patients in Fethiye receive life saving treatment.,
After an eventful journey and a pitstop at Gustorante Restaurant in Çalış, , they arrived at Abrahkebebrah in Hisarönü at 7:30pm on Sunday 5th May to a rousing, cheer filled welcome from family, friends, locals and holidaymakers who stopped by to see what was going on.
Halfway there
Dave and the team are now at the halfway mark and have covered 2500 miles and 13 countries, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. What an incredible journey.

If you’ve been following the live feed on the 3 Minis go to Turkey Facebook page you’ll know the journey has been eventful with a missed ferry and a snag at the Turkish border that almost stopped the guys from travelling any further. Almost, but not quite!
Meeting the Fethiye Governor
Yesterday, Dave and the team were invited to meet with the Fethiye Governor, Muzaffer Şahiner, who has been following the progress of the Minis with interest. The Governor is also the Head of FETAV, the governing body of Yaşam İçin Yarış so had more than one reason for wanting to meet the team.
The Minis caused quite a stir amongst passers by as they waited for the barrier to rise and let them into the car park at the Governors office building.

Once inside, the Minis were parked to show them to their best advantage, introductions were made, flowers and certificates were presented and the Governor gave his sincere thanks to Dave and the team for their support for Fethiye and Yaşam İçin Yarış.

Photographs were taken with the Minis and the Governor was that taken with the red Mini, we thought he may offer to drive it back to the UK.

The ceremony was followed by a very relaxed half an hour with the Governor in his office during which everyone drank çay and the Governor talked about Fethiye and chatted with Dave and the team.

The Minis were last seen disappearing round the one way system in Fethiye …but they’re here until Friday so keep an eye out for them

A fantastic achievement
So far Dave, Anthony, Gareth, Daren, Hugh and Lee have raised over £7,000 for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and over 20,000 TL for Yaşam İçin Yarış. What a fantastic achievement and don’t forget the guys are only half way.
