Missing Person Triggers Search and Rescue Mission
A missing person from Hisaronu triggered a search and rescue on Friday.
Personnel from AKUT, the Jandarma, fire service, a tracker dog and neighbours took to the countryside to try and find the missing 71 year old Şafak Yılmaz who had been missing for two days.
By Saturday the local press reported that the search teams had investigated a cave in which they thought someone may have fallen into but found the site was clear.
The search continues.
Shepherd Couple Found Dead
Meanwhile two off road motorcyclists came across a gruesome find last week whilst they were out riding in the remote forested area around the Mendos mountain.
The motorcyclists found the dead bodies of a man and woman on a forest track that it appeared they had been travelling on with their motorbike.
They raised the alarm and the security services were soon on the scene.
The local press believed that the deceased, a husband and wife shepherd team from Esenköy, had been shot.
They reported that the 44 year old man and his 38 year old wife had been shot whilst riding their motorbike along the remote mountain track where they had been travelling to tend their flock of 60 sheep.
The press also reported that empty shells from a gun had been found nearby.
The couple were buried on Thursday and over 1,000 attended it was reported.
The bodies have been sent away to Mugla for forensic analysis and a investigation by the Jandarma has commenced.
Friends and relatives who spoke with the press said they did not believe the couple had any enemies.

Fethiye marked International Women’s Day last Tuesday with the opening of a memorial park to remember a young woman who last year was tragically taken from this world.
Hundreds filled the promenade to watch the event.

Fire on Wooden Yacht

Semercioğlu 4
A fire broke out on a large gulet (wooden yacht) last week in FETHIYE bay.
The press reported that fire started in the engine bay of the Semercioğlu 4.
The fire service took two hours to extinguish the fire.
The Coastguard has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Booze Blamed for Pensioners Bike Crash
A 71 year old was treated for head injuries in a FETHIYE hospital last week when they were admitted after falling from their electric bike.
The press reported that the person had to be rushed by ambulance from The town of Ortaca to FETHIYE after the tumble.
The press reported that the hospital found the person to be intoxicated.
Turkish Money
The British Pound bought 4.12 TL by the close of business on Friday.
The week before it bought 4.13 TL.
A Turkish Lira was worth 24 pence
Weather
A wet start to the week and further spells of rain are forecast for the week ahead.

A week for Fethiye foodies
Throughout this week we are celebrating aspects of Fethiye’s wonderful food culture with some new, interesting stories and one that’s rather strange.

On Saturday 19 March at 20:30 (8:30pm), Turkey will support Earth Hour for the first time.
We don’t know if Fethiye will be involved, but according to reports in the Turkish media, famous Turkish landmarks like the ancient city of Ephesus, Edirne’s Selimiye Mosque and Cappadocia’s ‘Fairy Chimneys’ will be switching off their lights to Earth Hour.
