Following the success of last winter’s Clothes Exchange events, the Sustainable Living in Fethiye team have decided to start doing them again, on a monthly basis, now that the weather has got a little cooler.
The first event took place last Saturday at Cafe Soul on Çalış sea front. As a special treat to kick off this season of events, Kaptan June and members of her team from the Dalyan Sea Turtle Foundation also came along.
Kaptan June met with myself and other members of the Sustainable Living team earlier this year when we travelled to Dalyan to hand over money raised from raffles held during previous Clothes Exchange events. She was intrigued to hear about the events and, even back then, expressed her interest in attending.

It proved to be a very worthwhile visit for everyone concerned. Not only did the people of Çalış get the chance to meet this fascinating lady but, thanks to merchandise sales and donations, they raised 765TL for the Foundation.
Before she left Kaptan June said “Thank you to the people of Çaliş for your warm and friendly greeting, it’s been a very happy day for me. Myself and the team think the Clothes Exchanges are a fantastic idea and we very much look forward to attending another one in the early part of next year.”
Elsewhere, the event itself was a resounding success with items flying everywhere and many people going home very pleased with their new clothes, shoes and bags. Obviously it couldn’t have happened without the support of Cafe Soul who hosted the event, the wonderful volunteers who have helped right from the beginning and, of course, the people that came along with their unwanted clothes. It’s a fun few hours and has the extra bonus of helping the environment.
