111 thousand 436 meters of streams cleaned in Muğla in 10 months

111 thousand 136 meters of streams have been cleaned in Muğla by MUSKİ (Muğla General Directorate of Water and Sewerage Administration) in the last 10 months.
Cleaning will continue in 13 districts during the winter months to prevent floods.

Turkey’s three mobile providers set up a joint line for emergencies

Turkey’s three mobile providers are setting up a joint line facility that will allow people to contact families in emergencies like natural disasters.
The facility is being set up as a result of Türk Telekom’s inability to cope with demand throughout the recent 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul.
During an earthquake, normal usage of twenty million can rise to sixty million with people trying to contact family and friends. Mobile providers will be able to increase their overall capability to a hundred seventy-five million calls from 118 million people.
The system will be available in three months time.

New flights from Norwich Airport to Turkey

Holiday firm TUI has announced its biggest ever holiday programme with new destination Antalya in Turkey added to its summer 2020 programme from Norwich Airport.
The move saw 14,000 extra seats go on sale onTuesday from Norwich Airport with Antalya flights operating on Saturdays. TUI will also introduce new 10 and 11 night holidays to Dalaman in Turkey, providing even more duration options for customers.
TUI’s director of Aviation Planning, Karen Switzer said: “Earlier this month TUI announced an additional two million seats to many holiday destination favourites and on Tuesday the majority of these seats went on sale for summer 2020”.

Flamingos begin migration from Lake Van in eastern Turkey

Flamingos nesting at Turkey’s largest lake during the summer months have begun to migrate to warmer regions of Africa.
The fluffy pink fowl with their slender necks add to the scenic natural view of Lake Van in eastern Turkey. During their two-month stay, they draw tourists and photographers to the region.
Zoology professor Özdemir Adızel told Anadolu Agency that Lake Van is an important feeding ground for flamingos, along with 234 other bird species.
“Flamingos are a transit species for the Lake Van basin, that is, on their way from one point to another. They come here in the spring, stay for a few months and begin migrating again in November,” Adizel said.

Turkish lira gains value against dollar after US lifts sanctions

The Turkish lira gained ground against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington had lifted all sanctions against Ankara over its operation in northern Syria.
The Turkish lira strengthened 1.3% to around 5.73 against the dollar after Trump’s statement. It recovered from 5.82 earlier in the day.
The euro was trading at 6.3760 against the lira on Wednesday, down 1.3%.
According to analysts, the Turkish lira is expected to gain more after Thursday’s monetary policy committee meeting of the Turkish Central Bank. More …
