The first significant autumn rains arrived on Monday.

The roads turned into skating rinks initially catching out a few drivers who underestimated the slippery road conditions.

The local press carried images of cars that had crashed into drainage channels and even one that had left the road and landed in a ravine.

No injuries were reported.

Farewell to Jetty

The Fethiye Municipal Jetty – as with others along the Muğla coastline – has been taken over by the Muğla Metropolitan Authority.

Currently it is used by the Fethiye-Rhodes ferries, visiting ships and some of the larger gulets.

The jetty was originally assigned to Fethiye Council in 1958 and the Mayor of Fethiye had hoped that this title deed (tapu) could stop the transfer from happening.

Earlier in the week, large posters were erected at the entrance to the public jetty to protest about the transfer.

He told the crowd of his concerns and said that he would never set foot on the jetty again.

The event attracted government ministers, scientists, farmers, processors and buyers as well as visitors from 21 countries.

Fethiye is one of Turkey’s main producers of pine honey as a result of its verdant pine forests.

The facility has been built in the village of Gokceovacik.

Villagers and farmers can bring their olives to the facility, where they will be turned into oil.

The British Pound bought 3.95 Turkish Lira by the close of trading on Friday.

A Turkish Lira was worth 25 pence.

Last week it bought 3.79 TL.
