On Street Parking Charges Return to Fethiye

On street parking charges have returned to Fethiye after their collection by the Fethiye Municipality for Fethiyespor Football Club was halted due to government legislation back in early May this year.
Parking attendants, working for MUTTHAŞ, were reported to have resumed taking cash from drivers on Friday.
Signs have been installed on lamp posts and pylons setting out the rates starting at 1 TL for 15 minutes to 8 TL for a 24 hour stay.
Wardens who are wearing hi-viz tabards are currently writing out ticket charge notices by hand.
There are reports that an electronic system will be activated by the end of this month.
Safety Criticsed at Inquest of Tourist Who Died

On 24 May this year holiday makers 21 year old Amarna Carthy and her cousin from Bakersfield, Nottingham hired a quad bike from Fethiye.
But their fun day out turned into disaster when the vehicle overturned.
Amarna died at the scene.
An inquest into the death took place last week at Nottingham Coroners Court.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the investigating Detective Sergeant said it appeared the headgear “had not offered them much protection”.
He added: “From my analysis of the evidence, the issue wasn’t so much if there was any apparent problem with the quad bike, it was more to do with the quality of the helmet.
“What Amarna needed was protection when she came off that bike.”
He continued:
“If anything good is to come of this, the message goes out to the public that they need to be very vigilant of the safety standards abroad when hiring any vehicle of this type, both in terms of the vehicle and safety equipment.”
Since Amarna’s death, her family have started a website – missingmarna.co.uk – and social media campaign to warn other holidaymakers about dangers abroad.

A weather system swept over many parts of Turkey last week bringing cold air and snow to some areas.
But the sun was shining in Fethiye and the air was warm.
The local press headed to Oludeniz and on to the beach to interview some of the tourists swimming and enjoying the sun.
One group said they had popped down to Fethiye for a few days from their home town of Ankara.
They said it was so nice to be enjoying the wonderful weather when they know it’s snowing back home.
Regular flights between Dalaman Internal Airport and Ankara and Istanbul have opened up domestic tourism even out of season bringing much needed revenue to the tourist economy.
Healthy Teeth

The annual dental health campaign started in Fethiye last week.
It will see nearly 10,000 young people in 41 neighbourhoods and villages supplied with a toothbrush, tooth paste and training on oral hygiene.
The campaign is led by Fethiye Council.
Turkish Money
The British Pound bought 4.15 Turkish Lira by the close of trading on Friday remaining above 4 TL for a second week.
A Turkish Lira was worth 24 pence.
Last week it bought 4.09 TL.
